A new promotional image for DC Universe's fast approaching Swamp Thing series has been released. The poster features the titular creature rising from the swamp with a decomposed corpse cradled in his arms.This image, which was posted to the show's official Twitter page, is a direct homage to artist Steve Bissette's cover for 1984's Swamp Thing #28, a key issue from writer Alan Moore's seminal run penning Swamp Thing for DC Comics.
Much like in this new promotional image, the cover for Swamp Thing #28 sees the creature carrying the skeletal remains of Alec Holland, Swamp Thing's former self. The issue itself revolves around the iconic green elemental searching the swamp that birthed him for Holland's corpse, so that he may give it a proper burial.
Since the new poster for the DC Universe original series is clearly taking its cues from the classic cover, it suggests that the identity of the deceased person being carried by the live-action Swamp Thing is, in fact, Alec Holland. Moreover, the solemn look on the creatures face suggests that his intentions are also similar to Moore wrote over three decades ago in his classic run on the series.
Premiering Friday, May 31, on DC Universe, Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade and Kevin Durand. The series is executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman.
