Swamp Thing Teaser Photo Offers A New Look at Series Leads

Swamp Thing New 52

A new behind-the-scenes teaser photo from the DC Universe's Swamp Thing has been posted to Instagram by the series' executive producer/pilot director Len Wiseman.

The image features Wiseman alongside series leads Andy Bean and Crystal Reed, who play the characters of Alec Holland and Abby Arcane, respectively. In the photo's caption, Wiseman cryptically explains that they are in the middle of "Anatomy class."

Wiseman's caption could be a reference to Alan Moore and Steve Bissette's classic Swamp Thing story "The Anatomy Lesson" from 1984's Swamp Thing #21 which redefined the character as an elemental force of nature.

Early this month, a collection of photos of Bean and Reed on the set of Swamp Thing surfaced online. This is of note because the pair appear to be wearing the same clothes in those photos that they are in this new one. This suggests that this experiment and the boat ride those other photos depicted could be part of the catalyst for Alec's transformation into the show's titular Swamp Thing.

Reed was first revealed to have boarded the upcoming DC Universe original series in the role of Abby Arcane, Swamp Thing's telepathic love, back in September. It was then announced in November that Bean had joined the cast as Alec Holland, alongside the official confirmation that Derek Mears would be wearing the Swamp Thing suit)

Executive produced by James Wan, Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman, Swamp Thing will premiere sometime in 2019 on the DC Universe. The supernatural horror series stars Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Jennifer Beals, Henderson Wade, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade and Kevin Durand.
