Susan Wokoma, who plays Elton’s sister Helen on Truth Seekers, is a great addition to the cast of the show. Susan does an excellent job of creating a lovable and multi-faceted supporting character. At times she even outshines the rest of the star-studded cast, and that is what makes her one of the best parts of the show.

Truth Seekers follows Gus, played by Nick Frost, who works as an ISP engineer at the top installation company, Smyle. He also moonlights as a paranormal investigator posting videos on his YouTube channel, Truth Seekers. Gus is introduced to Elton John, played by Samson Kayo, at work and they are soon off solving supernatural mysteries. This is when audiences are introduced to Helen. When Helen isn't busy working on her own projects, by making cosplays and running her make-up YouTube channel, she is helping the others by running the live streams and social media pages.

Truth Seekers Has an Authentic Representation of Anxiety

Helen is quite the character; bubbly, energetic and with a direct sense of humor. Due to a traumatic experience that she went through when she was younger, she became incredibly anxious. After Elton saw a flaming ghost in their family's basement, their house was swarmed with neighbors, journalists and scientists. This continues to affect Helen, particularly when it comes to going out where there are large groups of people, such as at a cosplay convention.

Helen has been attempting to go to a local convention for five years. Every time they arrive, she can't leave the car and go inside. This time around, she is finally able to win first place when Gus enters the competition in her stead. Helen is very open about how she has been affected by her anxiety. She talks about how she doesn't do well with lots of people and how she often feels lonely because she isn't able to go outside. This creates a character that is very authentic while also presenting audiences with a look into what it can be like to have a condition such as this one.

Truth Seekers Shines a Light on Cosplay and Cosplay Culture

Helen spends most of her time at home doing the things she loves, such as cosplay and makeup tutorials. She said it best when she told Gus, "fancy dress is for kids, this is cosplay." Cosplay is about wearing a costume based on a character from a TV show, movie, anime, etc. When Helen first appears, she is working on a Dalek costume from Doctor Who to enter a cosplay competition at a local convention. Helen is very passionate about cosplay, even threatening to "cancel" Astrid if she wrecks her cosplay on their way to the convention.

Like any cosplayer, Helen struggles to get her outfit done on time and will use whatever items are available to her, such as a plunger, to make her cosplay. It is not often that cosplay and cosplay culture gets featured in a show that is not an anime, which is refreshing to see. When it comes to her cosplay makeup tutorials, Helen is even more adorable and enthusiastic in explaining how to create each look. While Helen might mostly be on the sidelines in Truth Seekers, appearing prominently from episode 4 in the series' eight-episode run, she still stands out and has made a lasting impression on fans of Truth Seekers.
