Supernatural has certainly been one of the most entertaining shows out there; it gave us something else to really sink our teeth into with so many seasons to binge. Honestly, when a show has more than three seasons, you know you’re in for a huge couch potato session with your best friend, or even by yourself. The show features everything you could ever want in a show about the unknown. There’s creepy creatures and each episode has a different person in need of rescuing from something no human would ever think to face. Sam and Dean, the Winchester brothers, are always there to help and provide plenty of storyline while also giving you some diversity in the people they meet and help. Tension, action and just a little bit of creepiness -- Supernatural really is a total package.

However, no show is without its faults. Even this one does some strange things for the sake of plot and, honestly, we’re still trying to wrap our heads around how it would really work in real life. The Winchester family has some strange things always going on that have nothing to do with the out-of-this-world creatures that attack them. Fans may be able to overlook it for the sake of their love, but we simply can’t let this be. No matter how much you love Sam and Dean, you have to admit there are just some things about their family that don’t make sense. Here are 20 weird things about the Winchester family that everyone ignores.

20 ONE OF SAM'S LICENSES SAYS HE'S FEMALE

We’ve seen the Winchester boys use a variety of IDs to pose as different people. After all, when you’re trying to live life off the radar while ridding the world of dark, supernatural forces, a couple fake IDs will certainly come in handy. However, Sam does have a driver’s license where he not only uses his real name, but also lists himself as the opposite gender.

The license has him living in California and wasn’t his official one, so we’re not really sure what his reason was for using his legitimate name while making his gender different. We don’t think that would really slip by officials if they found him!

19 BOTH BROTHERS HAVE COME BACK TO LIFE AT LEAST ONCE

One thing that continues to happen to the Winchester boys is that they keep dying and come back to life. The two have played leap-frog trying to save each other; really, they’re failing to do the initial saving and trying to correct the mistake by bringing the other back. And yet, when the two have come back, they seem to be perfectly fine.

You would think, especially since both of them have been to Hell, that they would be a little more shaken and never really being alright. Sure, the show does portray a little bit of trauma, but it’s not really that deep.

18 THEIR DAD WASN'T REALLY THE BEST

Part of what makes the Winchester family so different is the fact the boys never really lived a normal life since their mother passed away. In fact, this entire plot was a huge reason why Sam wanted out of the lifestyle in the very beginning of the show.

Honestly though, people don’t seem that freaked out that their dad decided to go hunting for demons while dragging along two little kids who would have to grow up in bad motels. We’ve seen there be some bright spots in the brothers’ childhood, but for the most part, it was pretty traumatic and not at all appropriate.

17 NO ONE HAS A GOOD LOVE LIFE IN THIS SHOW

Every time someone seems to finally get happy or finds someone that they could potentially see a future with, nothing goes right. Their girlfriends always seem to either end up gone or in the line of danger, leaving the boys to run off.

Fans seem to find this aspect of agonizing and longing love somewhat attractive, in a tragic way, but honestly? It’s a bit depressing and not at all satisfying. Anytime a new love interest pops up, you tend to not get your hopes up because you know exactly how it’s going to end: with them not getting together.

16 WHY ARE NONE OF SAM'S FRIENDS LOOKING FOR HIM?

When we’re introduced to Sam in the very beginning of the show, we see a college kid who’s really got a life going for him: a beautiful girlfriend, a promising college career and friends! Of course, we know this won’t last, but there’s one thing that’s incredibly confusing about all of this; where do his friends go?

We know that Sam’s girlfriend passes away and that he has to leave college behind, but is no one seriously looking for him? Certainly it’s a little suspicious when your friend and his girlfriend just go off the radar, someone has to be worried!

15 IN FACT, HOW DID SAM EVEN GET INTO COLLEGE?

It’s a little hard to believe that Sam got into college in the first place, considering he grew up off the radar. There’s a lot more that goes into being in a public school setting, even college, and we’re having a hard time figuring out what he did to get in.

Since both of the boys seem to lie in order to get into plenty of different places, there’s a possibility that Sam lied about his schooling and even recommendations to get into college. That being said, we can’t deny that he’s very smart and certainly deserved to go in the first place!

14 NO PAIN, NO GAIN

We know that the Winchester boys have been trained to handle a lot of things -- fighting dark forces isn’t a game. You can, and will, get hurt when you’re dealing with different creatures and demons all the time. But there’s a level of pain that both Sam and Dean seem to have and, while it’s clear they’re uncomfortable, they seem to be able to handle a lot of torture.

There have been plenty of uncomfortable scenes where both brothers were getting hurt, but all things considered, they seemed to handle it much better than your average person would. Are they really human?

13 THEY LOOK OK, CONSIDERING ALL THEY'VE BENE THROUGH

The brothers have been out there fighting unknown terrors for most of their lives. There’s almost always some baddie around the corner just waiting to sink their teeth into the Winchesters, including their father. Yet, none of them really look all that worse for wear.

You would think they’d have a few more scars or more crooked facial features like a bent nose, but they remain just as flawless and attractive as they were the day before. It’s a little strange that they’re not more battered considering the harsh lives they’ve lived up until this point, you wouldn’t look quite so clean dealing with evil every day.

12 EVEN SAM IS STILL IN RELATIVELY GOOD HEALTH

Speaking of the Winchester’s strange good looks and health, it’s really surprising that Sam is as healthy as he is. Sure, he still struggles with a few things from his past, but it’s not nearly as bad as you’d think.

Sam has not only been a literal vessel for the devil himself, but he’s also had an addiction to demon’s blood, which isn’t something you should mess around with lightly. So why on earth is he still seemingly so healthy? It’s a wonder this character is still even alive. But we know that even if anything happened to him, his brother would just find a way to bring him back.

11 HOW DID THEY SERIOUSLY FORGET THEIR HALF-BROTHER?

While we don’t hear about Adam until much later in the series, the plot twist of there being a third Winchester brother was really random and startling for most fans. The half-brother of Sam and Dean, Adam seemed to fit in as a very awkward third wheel.

But that doesn’t mean it’s okay for them to forget about him! He was possessed by angels and eventually disappeared; we never actually see him again and it doesn’t seem like Sam or Dean really cares. For all that brotherly love, you’d think they’d have a little more room in their heart for one more.

10 SAM HAS TECHNICALLY LIVED LONGER THAN DEAN

There’s something else that’s incredibly weird that we never really seem to address: Sam is technically older than Dean, at least in mentality. Both boys have been to Hell and suffered a great deal while they were there. However, time works differently there than it does in the real world.

Sam had perished and was trapped in his hellish prison for a full year, but down below it was closer to 120 years. Dean only suffered for around four months, which means Sam’s spirit has now lived far longer than his “older” brother’s. It’s never really addressed, but certainly cool to think about.

9 SAM CAUSED THE APOCALYPSE

We get that there are some family members you’re so close to, there might be very little they could do to really upset you. Some people you just feel the need to forgive and we’ve seen that to be the case for Dean when it comes to Sam multiple times.

However, out of the list of simple, unforgivable things that should never be pushed off, starting the apocalypse is definitely one of them. When Sam caused the destruction of the world, Dean didn’t really seem all that upset about it once it was over -- there wasn’t even a discussion about it!

8 NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE BROTHERS' DESTINIES ARE

Do we really know what the end goal is for Sam and Dean? Both of the Winchester boys seem to always have new destinies swirling about, but there hasn’t been a clear answer given. The angels gave us a few cryptic messages about what they’re supposed to be doing, but they’ve since deviated from that path.

A lot of things have changed since the battle of Heaven and Hell, so we’re not really sure that they’re even supposed to be of use anymore. Some days it feels like they’ve just gone back to the way things were; which is honestly surprising, even for them.

7 THE MARK OF CAIN IS REALLY OP, BUT MAKES NO SENSE

Everyone loves The Mark of Cain on Dean. In fact, we’ve even seen some people get a similar tattoo as a tribute to their beloved show. Whether or not you’re that dedicated to the Supernatural fandom, you’ll have to agree that this particular mark is incredibly powerful.

It’s supposed to make Dean a serious punisher, but it has a lot of side effects, like being ultra-aggressive. For being such a crazy OP marking, there wasn’t any information on it -- the Men of Letters didn’t even have any research done. Honestly, as cool as the mark was, it seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

6 APPARENTLY THEY CAN ABSORB SOULS

Apparently if you use the right ritual, you too can absorb souls into your body! We’re not really sure how healthy it is for you, but Dean Winchester would know better than anyone what it’s like to have not just one or two extra souls floating around in you, but over 200,000.

We saw this come about when the brothers had to defeat Amara; absorbing the souls was the only way to be able to take her down, but we’re not really sure why this was ever even allowed in the first place. Rituals aside, it seems a little odd to have a human take other souls.

5 THEIR MAGIC TATTOOS ARE POINTLESS

You have to admit, out of all the cool tattoos that have come out of Supernatural, the anti-possession marks on their chests are really cool looking and very iconic for the show. While we love the ink, we have to admit the tats have definitely lost their appeal over time.

Certainly, this will make sure a good chunk of creatures can’t take over their body, but there’s still plenty of other things that can possess them if powerful enough; like the angels or demons that tend to follow them around. Sometimes we wonder if it would even be worth the trouble to have gotten the tattoos in the first place.

4 SAM'S TELEKINETIC POWERS WERE A LITTLE OP

When Sam was addicted to demon blood, he became a totally different person. He was angry, violent and certainly not the same boy we saw in Season 1. Now consumed with his obsession for blood, we saw him getting prepped to open the gates of Hell. During this time he had some really strong telekinetic powers that he seemed really fond of using.

Really, anytime a character has powers like that, it’s a little hard to believe that anyone was able to defeat them. Especially the fact that someone like Sam Winchester had this ability, we’re amazed that the world didn’t fall apart.

3 ANGELS HAVE A HIGH INTEREST IN THEM

We’re really not sure why angels, like Castiel, keep hanging around the brothers in the first place. Obviously they originally had plans and thought out destinies that they wanted Sam and Dean to have, but again, these things keep changing.

We’re honestly very surprised that they’d even want to be, especially since both of them have been involved with demons; sometimes even on a very personal level, like Sam was with Ruby. It’s a little strange and we’re sure the angels have their reasons, but for now it seems to be a little bit of a dark spot that just seems weird.

2 WALKING THROUGH DREAMS IS WEIRD

Both Sam and Dean have dream walking abilities that seem very useful, but also a little random. Of course, we’ve seen instances of astral projection when they’re having an out-of-body experience, but this is a little different. In fact, they often use their dreams as places for meetings, since it’s not a place easily infiltrated by prying ears.

Sam is also able to manipulate his dream’s settings, which is really strange. As cool as this power is, it’s also a little strange and seems like it can go wrong in a lot of ways. Sometimes dreams just aren’t that realistic.

1 TIME TRAVEL DOESN'T SEEM TO AFFECT THEM

One Winchester brother seems to love running around in different timelines, which really shouldn’t be a thing. Dean has time traveled more than once in the show, but it’s really strange that he’s able to continue doing this without any kind of side effects.

Not only would you expect this to take some kind of toll on his body, but you’d also think that it’d be just a little too easy for him to mess something up and cause a butterfly effect on the rest of the timelines. Shouldn’t the future be just a little bit different? We could probably do without these episodes.
