The CW has just released an extended trailer for "Wayward Sisters," the upcoming Supernatural midseason premiere that will also serve as a backdoor pilot to the spinoff series of the same name.

In the midseason finale of Supernatural, Sam and Dean Winchester were transported to an alternate reality known only as the Bad Place, which is largely populated by monsters. When the series returns for new episodes later this week, they'll need to be saved by Claire Novak, daughter of the vessel of their trusty angel friend Castiel.

The Wayward Sisters spinoff will focus on Claire, along with fellow recurring characters Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes), Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen), Kaia Nieves (Yadira Guevara-Prip), Patience Turner (Clark Backo), and Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster). Patience and Kaia are the most recent characters to join the Supernatural universe, with the other women having appeared in earlier seasons.

Wayward Sisters is the second attempt at a Supernatural spinoff. The first, titled Bloodlines, had a backdoor pilot episode of the same name that arrived in the show's ninth season. Had it gone to series, it would have focused on the monster and hunter cultures of Chicago, with cop-turned-hunter Ennis Ross as the spinoff's lead.

Returning this Thursday at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert.
