Sam Winchester may get something he lost in Season 2 back: his premonitions.
In a new clip from tonight's episode of Supernatural, Sam emerges from his bedroom, looking groggy and out of sorts. "Rough night?" Dean asked, to which Sam replied, "Just weird dreams."
"The past few days, you've barely come out of your room," Dean pointed out. "Look, man, I get it, okay? With Jack. With Rowena. Rowena knew what she was getting herself into. She knew what needed to be done." Here, he is referring to her death from the prior episode.
"Doesn't make it any easier," Sam said.
"No, it doesn't," Dean agreed. The clip can be viewed in full at TVLine.
It's those weird dreams that may indicate Sam's premonitions are returning. “As they keep happening more and more, I think it’s going to dawn on [Sam that] this may be more than just PTSD,” co-showrunner Andrew Dabb explained.
Back in the first two seasons of the show, Sam occasionally found himself dreaming about the future. For instance, he saw his girlfriend Jessica's death in dreams months before it happened. These powers appeared to be tied to the Yellow-Eyed Demon, aka Azazel, as part of his plan to turn Sam into the perfect vessel for Lucifer. They stopped after Sam and Dean successfully defeated Azazel in the Season 2 finale.
However, if Dabb's tease is any indication, those weird dreams will play a significant role in Season 15. As Supernatural comes to a close, they may call back to the show's formative years in this way, to bring the story full circle.
Airing Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, the final season of Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert.
