According to Supernatural alum Ruth Connell, series co-star Jensen Ackles was a kind and considerate scene partner -- when he had to point a gun at her."I remember Jensen Ackles so clearly from this early moment in Supernatural for me," Connell said in a quote tweet to a GIF of her character in her second appearance on the show, Season 10 Episode 7, "Girls, Girls, Girls." She explained that the star took extra time to talk to her about the scene where his character, Dean, chased Connell's character, Rowena, down and pointed a gun at her. Connell made it clear that Ackles went above and beyond to make the scene easier for her, saying that "he’d been careful to show me the gun was fake that he was pointing at me but that he got it was still an uncomfortable feeling!" She added that being more comfortable in the scene helped her performance. She explained how the moment "gave me even more confidence to play with him + find this."

Rowena's Path to Becoming a Fan-Favorite

"Girls, Girls, Girls" was technically Connell's second episode on the show, but she previously only had a cameo in a short teaser earlier in the season. Episode 3 of Season 10, "Soul Survivor," saw the first appearance of Rowena in person, as she calmly read a book in a hotel room dripping blood, revealing that she had killed two members of the hotel staff, who were now attached to the ceiling.

Rowena, in her first full appearance, was revealed to be a witch who had been killing people in high-end hotels for some time now after putting spells on them. Sam and Dean attempted to catch her, but she evaded them, ultimately escaping from Dean after he pulled a gun on her through sheer luck. At the very end of the episode, after Rowena had been captured by demons, yielded another major reveal about her character: she's Crowley's mother.

Connell would go on to appear in 33 episodes on the show total between 2015 and 2019, with the greatest number of those episodes in Season 10. She also made recurring appearances over the course of Seasons 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15, making Rowena one of the show's longest-running female characters. Connell has most recently appeared as "Night Nurse" in an episode of Doom Patrol titled "Dead Patrol", which served as a backdoor pilot for the currently filming series Dead Boy Detectives.
