According to Supernatural's Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, nothing can ruin an emotional moment quite like a runaway pearl.

In a recent clip from The CW, the stars of the long-running series shared some behind-the-scenes details of the show's 300th episode, "Lebanon," which aired in 2019. After Sam and Dean exchange an emotional goodbye with their father, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Padalecki's Sam is supposed to crush an enchanted pearl to send their father back to his own time. Unfortunately, the pearl opted for a different outcome. Instead of crushing the pearl, Padalecki's action sent the pearl, "like a slingshot," into Morgan's crotch. As Padalecki described it, Morgan dropped to the floor in pain, and the emotional scene devolved into laughter.

The video also reveals that it isn't just runaway props that ruin takes. More often than not, it is costar Misha Collins who breaks the scene. "I can't tell you how many hours, how many days, how many, literally, months of footage have been ruined by me laughing on camera," the Castiel actor admitted.

Supernatural is currently wrapping up its fifteenth and final season. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forced a halt to production, delaying the last seven episodes for several months. The series finale, "Carry On," will air on Nov. 19.

Starring Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert, the final episodes of Supernatural air Thursdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. Seasons 1 through 14 are currently streaming on Netflix.
