Supernatural has gained a dedicated fan following over the years, and remains one of the longest-running genre shows in history. Part of that appeal comes from the bond between brothers Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki). It's hard to imagine a version of the show where that bond wasn't an integral part of the show.

However, according to series creator Eric Kripke, that wasn't originally the case. Kripke revealed that the original draft of the pilot featured Dean keeping a secret from Sam.

While the original pilot had both Winchester Brothers knowing about the existence of monsters, Kripke's first draft only had Dean knowing about the family business, with Sam being brought up to speed over the course of the series. Kripke later figured out that the brothers needed to work together, and thus the series started to resemble its current incarnation. "The first inkling I had that we had something special was shooting the pilot," Kripke told Entertainment Weekly. "It was the scene on the bridge when Sam and Dean talk about their mother. It was the first time that you really saw their chemistry and their connection as brothers on full display. Because I’ve always said this show begins and ends with whether you believe that sibling relationship."

Airing on The CW, the final season of Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert.
