Following the report on Thursday that Warner Bros. is eyeing "The LEGO Batman Movie" director Chris McKay to helm a live-action Nightwing film, plenty of entertainment websites and Dick Grayson devotees have taken a stab at dreamcasting the feature. However, one fan on Twitter decided to directly ask "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki whether he'd consider playing the superhero. The actor's response?

@DanielJFalconer I've always wanted to...

At 6-foot-4, Padalecki is perhaps easy to imagine as the fan-favorite vigilante. Best known for his role as Sam Winchester on The CW's long-running drama "Supernatural," the 34-year-old actor first attracted a following for his portrayal of Dean Forester on "Gilmore Girls." He reprised that role for an episode of Netflix's "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life."

Reportedly written by Bill Dubuque (“The Accountant”), the Nightwing film would be only the latest expansion of Warner Bros.’ ambitious live-action DC Films slate. The studio in late 2014 announced 10 films — from “Batman v Superman” to “Justice League” to “Cyborg” — taking its DC calendar well into 2020. However, since then it has added such projects as the “Suicide Squad” sequel and its spinoff “Gotham City Sirens,” “Justice League Dark,” “The Batman” and, now, “Nightwing.”

There's no indication yet of where "Nightwing" would fall on the DC Films schedule. However, the next entry in the DC Extended Universe arrives June 2 with director Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. It’s followed Nov. 17 by Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher.
