Supernatural co-showrunner Andrew Dabb teased that the upcoming series finale is a nod to earlier episodes.

"Everything is pretty mythology-focused up until the finale," Dabb told Entertainment Weekly. "[The finale] is a little bit more of an old-school episode." Dabb went on to explain that the final two episodes of the series — episodes 19 and 20 — aren't a true two-parter, but that they were grateful to have the space to finish the story.

"It seemed like a lot to land all of our myth and a satisfying farewell. Doing it all in 42 minutes would have been really difficult," Dabb continued. "So, better for us to treat it almost like a two-parter, where a lot of the myth stuff, not all of it, but a lot it gets dealt with in episode 19 and then 20 can focus more on the characters and their journeys."

He also noted, "We wanted it to, in some ways, hearken back to where the show began, which was two guys on the road saving people, hunting things." And while Dabb understands that they won't be able to satisfy every single fan with the show's ending, the cast and crew "believe it feels like a fitting end to the show."

Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins and Alexander Calvert. The series' penultimate episode "Inherit the Earth" airs on Thursday, Nov. 12 and the series' final episode airs on Nov. 19 on The CW. Supernatural's 14 seasons are currently streaming on Netflix, with its final season being added by the end of November.
