As Supernatural moves deeper into its fifteenth and final season, longtime star Jensen Ackles will take the director's chair once again.

The final season's fifth episode, titled "Atomic Monsters," has Sam and Dean Winchester investigate the apparent murder of a young girl, with another mysteriously disappearing. Ackles has previously directed six episodes of the long-running CW series, and shared a behind-the-scenes photo this past July while scouting for filming locations for his next directorial effort with the show.

Season 15 had begun with a vengeful God unleashing the evil of Hell upon the Earth after the Winchesters' failed attempt to kill Him. It is currently unclear if the new child murder mystery is connected to the current apocalyptic battle between Heaven and Hell, with the planet caught in between.
