According to What's Playing, the film will truly be "Superman Begins," at lease in plot if not title. "A character breakdown issued to casting agencies this week says that the plot involves Clark getting involved in some sort of battle between two tribes in West Africa," they write. The breakdown also mentions this thread for the character, "When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, Clark returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be."

Writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman spoke with The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex blog about the reaction to the trailer. "We decided the title was too much of its own log line and too much of what made us love the property in the first place. We didn't want to lose it. At the same time, we knew that the title could be misleading. We wanted to make sure that this trailer made it clear that there was a certain tone to this movie that you might not be able to discern from the title. So aside from people liking the trailer, I think we accomplished the goal of demonstrating that this is a real movie," says Orci. Kurtzman mentioned the difficulty in finding the right hat for Harrison Ford. "That was a topic of much discussion early on. Spielberg had quite a lot to say about it. We were all very cautious about it because, obviously, we were putting Harrison Ford in a hat, which is only one of the most iconic images of the past 30 years. We needed to make sure that - no pun intended - we tipped a hat to iconography of Harrison Ford and also presented the audience with a very different version," he explained.

Paul Dini and members of his writing staff spoke with CBR News about the series. "It's like playing a video game and expecting to be knocked out on each level. I never dreamed we'd be going all the way through to series, so at the beginning I was just writing to please myself and make sure the pilot was the best it could be," he said of the early stages. "X-Files" vet Glen Morgan and his brother Darin came on to run the show as it went to series. "There was a short list of show runners we wanted, and Glen was the one I wanted the most and also the one who I think impressed Cartoon Network the most. I was thinking all the while we were shooting the pilot in British Columbia 'This should have an 'X-Files' feel to it.' I was very happy to be doing the pilot outside of [Hollywood] especially in that area because that's what I imagined the Tower Prep area to look like the most. Geographically, it was perfect. So when Glen's name came up, I was going, 'Boy, if there's any chance to get him, I'm all for it.'"
