Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent reveals that every version of Superman Clark Kent says the same last word aloud before they die.

Written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Clayton Henry, a preview of Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #1 shows one version of Jon's superhero father, Clark/Kal-El, fighting a losing battle against Ultraman, the evil Man of Steel from Earth-3. For an unknown reason, this Superman's powers are fading, allowing Ultraman to kill the hero with his heat vision. Before he does so, Ultraman holds Superman up by his neck and tells him, "Now say it, Kal-El. Say your last word." Superman sheds a tear and mumbles "Lois," the first name of his wife, Lois Lane, and Ultraman responds, "There it is. It's always the same."

Jon Kent's New Powers and Ultraman Rivalry, Explained

First announced at New York Comic Con 2022, Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent is set to be a six-issue series revolving around the titular young Superman. The title arrives after Jon's previous ongoing solo series written by Taylor, Superman: Son of Kal-El, but also spins out of the events of Action Comics #1050 and Lazarus Planet: Assault on Krypton #1. The former issue restored Jon and his father's secret identities, something Jon is seen appreciating at the end of the aforementioned preview, while the latter further awakened Jon's electric blue powers following Son of Kal-El's final issue.

The epilogue of Action Comics #1050 revealed that Kal-Els are being murdered across the Multiverse, and that Earth-2 Superman Val-Zod plans on bringing Jon into the fight against the villain responsible, Ultraman. Jon and Ultraman have a bad history already, since it was Ultraman who imprisoned Jon within a volcano on Earth-3 for years. This equated to only a few weeks on Earth-0, however, causing Jon to return to his parents aged up as opposed to the Superboy they once knew.

Adventures of Superman Is an Injustice Crossover

While Ultraman is wreaking havoc across the Multiverse, Jon must face another evil Superman in his new solo miniseries. Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent marks the first instance of the main DC Universe crossing over with that of Injustice, the popular video game franchise expanded upon through comics scribed by Taylor and others. Revealed to take place on Earth-49 by Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1, Injustice explores what would happen if Superman took over as the planet's dictator following the death of Lois and their unborn child, leaving the world's heroes divided as some side with Superman while others join Batman's resistance efforts.

Along with Taylor and Henry, Adventures of Superman #1 is colored by Jordie Bellaire and lettered by Wes Abbott. Main and variant cover art for the issue is by Henry and Marcelo Maiolo, with other variant cover artwork contributed to by Zu Orzu, Rafa Sarmento, Yasmín Flores Montañez, A.L. Kaplan, Megan Huang, Jordi Tarragona, Luis Guerrero, Dan Mora and Lee Weeks. The issue goes on sale March 7 from DC Comics.
