The next DC animated film is an adaptation of the widely acclaimed Superman: Red Son. The out-of-continuity story saw Kal-El crash-land in 1930s Russia instead of Kansas, only to become the Soviet Union's greatest superhero.

DC released its first clip from the upcoming movie, which shows a newsreel report covering the Soviet military's announcement of the Kryptonian hero. Kal-El shows off his incredible strength and endurance, before he meets with Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin.

Based on the 2003 comic book storyline of the same name by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett, the animated film showcases a much different incarnation of the DC Universe, with the Soviet Union receiving its own Batman while Lex Luthor rises to power in the United States in direct opposition to Superman and the Warsaw Pact.
