For the longest time, besides the big debate of who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman, there’s been another debate of who would be the better couple: Superman and Lois Lane, or Superman and Wonder Woman. This came most prominent as a competition when the New 52 era hit and writers had Supes hook up with Wonder Woman.

While Superman has had many love interests, he’s been lucky enough to have these two majestic women fall in love with him. Both are smart, strong (in their own respective ways), supportive, loving, funny, attractive women. However, each brings their own strengths to the relationship. Here is a list of the top best reasons why each woman is his best love interest of all time (WARNING: Spoilers ahead)!

10 Wonder Woman: Shared Responsibilities, Shared Stresses

In the New 52 era, having Kal-El and Diana romantically connect was so popular, it spawned their own shared title, Superman/Wonder Woman. Kal (even though he doesn’t have to) never has to worry about Diane not being able to take a beating.

They both know each other’s world when it comes to crime-fighting, they know the risks each has to take every day, and it drastically bonds them both. And, at the end of the day, they can share war stories about work and truly understand each other’s stresses over being superheroes.

9 Lois: Treats Him Like He’s A Normal Person

Some may think this a weakness, but treating Superman like he’s a normal human is a strength. Kal-El thinks himself somewhat human and Lois treats him like an equal rather than the way the rest of the world treats him: like a super-powered, all-knowing god.

She helps ground Kal-El/Clark by expecting him to be his best but also being understanding and accepting of his flaws. She even brings his ego down a notch by making fun of him, calling him “Smallville,” and factually bragging she’s the better reporter. At the end of the day, she is the constant for Kal, just like the Kents.

8 Wonder Woman: Shared Powers

From the first few pages of their shared title, you can tell Kal and Diana being together felt natural. Both know what it’s like to have super strength, speed, vulnerability, and flight. Unlike Lois, Diana knows what it’s like to have powers and the threats they can present to common people. Kal’s and Diana’s teamwork comes with years of working together on the Justice League, but it also proves that the two of them could take on a lot of threats just by themselves. While fighting beside each other, they know what to do without any conversation.

7 Lois: Gets Along With (Both Sets of) His Parents

She may not have coupled with Superman until long after his birth parents’ demise, but when presented the opportunity to meet Jor-El, he has relayed his utmost respect and adoration of Lois to his son. Needless to say, Jonathan and Martha love her too.

In many iterations, the Kents have always adored Lois, they have been in each other’s lives in various ways and have always pulled for them to be together. Thus proving that any woman you can take home to the parents is the kind of woman you want to marry.

6 Wonder Woman: Natural Born Leader

Being born a demigoddess and trained by some of the best warriors, Diana is accustomed to forging her own path, fighting her own battles and most times taking point when on a mission with the Justice League. She was also the God of War so she’s a master tactician who knows her way around a battlefield.

Such an aspect comes in handy for Kal seeing as he’s more of a peacemaker than a warrior. This makes a perfect balance for Kal’s and Diana’s relationship, and it helps guide Kal when he needs it in a fight.

5 Lois: Doesn’t Think His Weaknesses Make Him Weak

Whether he’s putting on the act of bumbling reporter Clark Kent, being poisoned by Kryptonite by some maniacal villain or has some personality-altering magic spell placed on him, Lois never looks at any of Kal’s weak moments as him being weak or less of a man.

Diana feels she always has to protect Kal which makes him feel less than, but, no matter how dire, Lois knows, trusts, and respects Kal to make his own decisions, just as he does with her. Diana freaks out when Kal loses his powers, but Lois knows that Kal’s powers aren’t the only things that make him super.

4 Wonder Woman: Fights for Her Man

Although Lois fights when she can, when it comes to brute strength, Diana will go head-to-head with any villain who dares to threaten or beat on Superman. Whether fighting Zod and Faora or battling Brainiac, she’s not afraid to give a beating even when Kal’s not himself … such as when he was infected by a Doomsday virus and was turning into the killing machine beast.

It’s not just a physical fight she’ll engage in, but also will argue and stick up for Supes against any foe … even when he doesn’t want her to.

3 Lois: Confidence

Diana is superhumanly strong and she does have confidence, but her confidence pales in comparison when it comes to Lois. It’s not difficult for Diana to have confidence with the superhuman abilities she has, but Lois is a normal human woman whose gruff upbringing and skills make her not just a master detective/investigative journalist but also the right woman for Kal.

She’s tough but vulnerable, critical but loving, and whether she’s dealing with presidents and dictators or gods and members of the Justice League, she treats everyone the same and is not easily intimidated.

2 Wonder Woman: Immortality

Lois has many great qualities to be loved by Kal-El, but the one drawback of her humanity puts her at a disadvantage. She will die. Diane, on the other hand, is a demigoddess, making her immortal. When Lois is long dead and gone, leaving Kal alone, it is Diana who will still be there. Plus, it’s difficult to kill her.

In most stories when Kal has gone mad, it was over the death of Lois; but it’s highly likely Diana would never fall to any villain. Plus, there would be no issue over Kal accidentally harming her since she’s as tough as he is.

1 Lois: Loves & Admires Him for Who He Is

Most people incorrectly think Lois only has the feels for Superman but ignores or disrespects Clark (most base this assumption from the 1978 film, Superman: The Movie). But what most fail to put together is that the Superman identity is who Kal-El truly is; Clark is the mask.

Contemporary comics have even picked up on this as they’ve made Clark less clumsy and awkward, making him more like Kal – while still remaining unassuming by wearing the glasses. So, Lois does love Kal for who he truly is whereas Diana questions Kal’s secret identity. And Kal’s affection mirrors Lois’s. Lois is not perfect just as Kal isn’t, and the two love each other all the more for it.
