WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Superman vs. Lobo #3, on sale now from DC Comics.

Superman is one of the most powerful heroes in comics. Although many other characters have been created by other publishers to create their own version of the Man of Steel, they rarely live up to the real deal. The likes of Marvel's Hyperion, The Boys' Homelander, and DC's own Shazam! were all created with Superman in mind, but in most cases none of the analogues can measure up to the original.

That makes something the Man of Steel said in Superman vs. Lobo #3 (by Tim Seeley, Sarah Beattie, Mirka Andolfo, Arif Prianto, and Fabio Amelia) all the more impressive. After entering what was left of the WildStorm Universe, he and Lobo were confronted by the survivors of that world. The Last Son of Krypton ended up in facing a variant of himself that existed within the devastated universe, Mr. Majestic, and as their battle came to a close, Superman admitted that the Wildstorm hero was even more powerful than he was.

Mr. Majestic was created by Jim Lee and H. K. Proger and first appeared in WildC.A.T.S. #11 in 1994. He was created to be WildStorm's answer to Superman and Lee imagined him as a version of the Man of Steel who wasn't afraid to cut loose with his powers. As such, Majestic would unleash his full powers on enemies often. He comes from a strong race of alien warriors, the Kherubim, and he is the most powerful of his kind thanks to alien enhancements.

Mr. Majestic's origins depict what would happen if Superman was enhanced to become stronger than a typical Kryptonian. This is demonstrated with Superman's shocking admission at the conclusion of their battle. However, in the face of inevitable defeat, the Man of Steel refused to yield, and proclaimed that he would continue fighting until he had no strength at all left. Majestic was moved enough by this display to then end the battle and discuss a nonviolent resolution to their conflict.

Despite the clear assertion that WildStorm's Superman is stronger than the original, the Man of Steel was still able to achieve a victory. The reason for that is the very thing that separates them the most. Mr. Majestic has faced immeasurable loss throughout his life. As an immortal who fought in a millennia-long war, he's lost many close allies and friends. He even lost his own son. Superman, on the other hand, hasn't faced nearly as much loss, even if he is the Last Son of Krypton. He never knew Krypton the same way Majestic knew his planet, Khera. And now, this powerful analog has lost his entire universe as well.

These different experiences give Superman the emotional advantage he needs to win without fists. Mr. Majestic was blinded by rage, trying to kill Numen for accidentally destroying his universe. Then the Man of Steel offered him a new perspective, allowing him to see Numen as an outsider, just like the Kherubim has been often, and not a murderer. Superman's ability to change his foes' minds allowed Majestic to see himself in his enemy and come up with a more peaceful solution to their problem.

Mr. Majestic is now officially more powerful than Superman but that doesn't change anything about the original. He may be capable of sending shockwaves through the multiverse with his fists, but the Man of Steel has always been about finding the best in humanity. Superman's compassion and humanity have always been more potent weapons in his quest for peace than brute strength ever was.
