Comic Book Questions Answered – where I answer whatever questions you folks might have about comic books (feel free to e-mail questions to me at brianc@cbr.com).

Reader Greg S. tweeted me (at Brian_Cronin) the following question:

DC covers in 1977 proclaimed, "YOU could be in the SUPERMAN movie - details inside." So... did this work for anyone?

Here's the quiz that Greg is talking about, which was splashed all over DC Comics back in the day...

The contest saw tens of thousands of entries and here are the two young winners, Tim Hussey and Ed Finneran...

The teenagers appear as part of the Smallville football team (I believe they're the two guys wearing grey)...

This contest had such an awesome turnout that DC quickly decided to do a second contest, only this time a trivia contest with a more modest (but still awesome) prize...

DC editor Jack Harris arranged so that the winners would be chosen by Superman himself, Christopher Reeve (who was in New York City for a TV appearance)...

Bon Rozakis has a fascinating story of his role in the second contest on his site here.

There you go, Greg! Thanks for the question! If anyone else has a question, feel free to write in to brianc@cbr.com or, I guess tweet me at Brian_Cronin, as well.
