A new trailer for Superman & Lois provides a new origin story for the bald head of the Man of Steel's archenemy. The trailer, which debuts Michael Cudlitz's Lex Luthor, begins with him moving his hands through his hair in his prison cell before a subsequent scene has some asking him if he's looking for a haircut. "I cut my own hair," replies Lex as viewers see him shave his head. In the comics, Luthor has multiple reasons for his bald head. In one version, an accident involving some chemicals caused toxic fumes that made all his hair fall out, though Superboy managed to save him from the resulting fire.RELATED: Superman & Lois Trailer Shows a Classic Green Arrow Villain's True Power

Michael Cudlitz's Lex Luthor is Out For Revenge

Lex seeking revenge was first alluded to in the announcement regarding Cudlitz's casting as the character, with the description for Lex saying that he's "re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch)," while also mentioning that it's been years since Lex dropped out of the public eye. The description also said that while the world knows Lex as "the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp," the criminal underworld knows that, in reality, he's "a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with."

Although Cudlitz's Lex has yet to appear on Superman & Lois, his casting was praised by previous Lex Luthor actor and Supergirl star Jon Cryer. The actor tweeted in response to Cudlitz celebrating getting the part, "Not gonna lie, sounds like this version of Lex Luthor is going to be very fun to play. I'm jealous. But this guy is going to absolutely crush it."

Before the announcement that Cudlitz was playing Lex in Superman & Lois' current season, Cryer explained to a fan in 2022 why he wouldn't reprise his role as Luthor. Cryer noted that at the time, the series was auditioning actors to play Lex, which meant he wouldn't come back. That said, Cryer also wished the person who landed the part well and called Superman & Lois "a terrific show."

Superman & Lois returns on April 25 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
