It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... a new Superman series on The CW!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW is adding another show to the Arrowverse. The network is developing Superman and Lois Lane, with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in the title roles. The series will follow "the world's most famous super hero and comics' most famous journalist deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society," which implies the inclusion of their Super Son, Jon Kent.
The Flash's Todd Helbing is attached as showrunner. He will also pen the pilot script. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns will produce. The series is expected to air during the the 2020-21 TV season.
Hoechlin made his Arrowverse debut on Supergirl in back in the Season 2 premiere, which aired in 2016. He has appeared in only a handful of episodes since, including last year's Arrowverse crossover "Elseworlds." He is slated to return for "Crisis on Infinite Earths," this year's major event. The series will likely spin out of the upcoming crossover.
Unlike Hoechlin, Tulloch didn't arrive until "Elseworlds" in 2018. She introduced Lois Lane to the Arrowverse in the crossover, where the character announced she was pregnant with Superman's child. The couple decided to move to Argo City for a while to ride out the pregnancy in the safest way possible for Lois. Their child has not yet made their Arrowverse debut, but that may change in "Crisis."
Superman & Lois Lane is far from The CW's first foray into the Man of Steel. The network was also home to Smallville, which explored the time before Clark Kent became Superman. That series ran from 2001 to 2001, making it almost a decade since the Last Son of Krypton had his own show on the network.
