WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 12, "Through the Valley of Death," which aired Tuesday on The CW.

Superman & Lois shocked with the revelation Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) is actually Tal-Rho, another Kryptonian. Aiming to transform Earth into New Krypton, the villain made Superman submit to keep his family safe, reconditioning him to forget his Clark Kent and Kal-El identities and creating a new warlord in their stead. However, while Tal eventually loses in the latest episode, "Through the Valley of Death," he may have just gotten his most powerful upgrade yet.

Tal and his dad, Zeta, succeed in placing Zod's consciousness into Superman, finally getting them the ultimate war dog to take over. It's clear they're loyalists to the House of Zod, but things get screwed up for the extremists when John Henry Irons suits up and finds the Man of Steel.

They brawl, and it ends with John reminding Superman of his humanity and family, snapping him out. He purges Zod mentally and with John's help, they attack Tal. But Tal's got a plan of his own, which involves overheating the Eradicator in space, which would fuel it enough to scatter the Kryptonian essences inside into human vessels. It feels like a Hail Mary play, as Tal doesn't have human hosts prepped, but he clearly has a trick up his sleeve.

Luckily, John's got a red solar flare missile that depowers Tal just as the explosion happens. Tal falls back to Earth, and to everyone's shock, Superman knocks him out cold with one punch when he tries to get up. It seems that the missile worked out much better than initially assumed, and it indeed stripped Tal of all his powers, which hints Tal's secret plan is a total flop.

Notably, John didn't get to see if the missile depowered his evil Superman before he got thrown to this reality, so he's relieved it doesn't fail. The episode ends with John confirming General Sam Lane and the army have taken Tal into a Kryptonian cell for containment. But as Tal's eye blinks, he has a warped smile.

Tal hears voices under the Kryptonite light, so it might be that he transferred the Kryptonians into him, potentially including General Zod. So once Tal is able to get out the cell or at least have the kryptonite turned off, chances are he will be stronger than ever. The missile might have just depowered him temporarily or it could be that with all these Kryptonians inside, Tal may have more power than expected. Either way, he seems confident and as sinister as ever and could return to Zeta's dusty fortress for the next phase, which doesn't augur well for Kal at all.

Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
