Natalie Irons' arrival is causing a little tension in the Kent family. In this exclusive clip from "What Lies Beneath," the Superman & Lois Season 2 premiere, Lois snaps at Clark when he mentions her daughter from another Earth, eliciting some concern from their sons Jonathan and Jordan.

The clip opens in the Kent family kitchen, with Clark calling for Jordan to come downstairs. Although he didn't get a response, Clark paused and choked out, "Oh, whoa!" When Jonathan asked if something was wrong, Clark coughed. "You'll, uh -- wow -- you'll smell," he promised.

As if on cue, Jordan emerged carrying a cardboard box. "Wow!" Jonathan gasped, waving his arm in front of his face. Trying to save face, Lois interjected, "Interesting cologne there, sweetie," but Jonathan didn't hold back: "Yeah, you put on the whole bottle there, chief?"

Lois tried another tactic and asked what was in Jordan's box. While at first he denied that it was anything special, he eventually admitted it was a surprise for his girlfriend Sarah, who had been away at camp for a month. He promised he'd be home for dinner, and then Clark switched topics.

"You know, it's Natalie's first day at school," Clark told Lois gingerly. Immediately, Lois' face fell and she looked away, but he continued, "Did you want to call her? Wish her luck, or something?"

"Clark, I don't know what to tell you," she snapped. "She still won't talk to me. Okay? I've got to get to these interviews." With that, she walked away, leaving Clark, Jonathan and Jordan in the kitchen.

When they heard the door close, Jonathan turned to his father. "Dad, how long is she going to be like this?" he asked, only for Clark to shake his head and say, "I don't know." But they had a practice to make, so he urged them to get in the car, on the condition they kept the windows down for the ride.

In the Superman & Lois Season 1 finale, John Henry Irons' long-lost daughter Natalie crash landed on the Kent family farm. Immediately after she emerged from her pod, she saw Lois and exclaimed, "Mom!" However, at the time, she didn't realize this was an alternate-world version of her mother, who died back on their Earth. While the finale didn't reveal Lois' reaction, this clip suggests it won't be smooth sailing for her.

"It's not gonna be fast and easy," showrunner Todd Helbing told CBR in a recent interview. "The two of them are in probably the most odd situation ever, and the same goes for John Henry. So I think that, at first blush, you look at these two, and there's a version where it's like, on Lois' side, 'Hey, I got the daughter that I wasn't able to love here in front of me,' and on Natalie's side, she could say, 'Well, I got my mom back,' but that's not the reality of it. They're strangers."

"So we just wanted to do as truthful of a version as we could to what that would really be like, and how there's not always a connection with people, right? Just because they're on the same show doesn't mean that they're instantly a mother/daughter," he explained. "They're not. So we just really wanted to get into the meat of that."

To see where Natalie fits into the Kent-Lane-Irons family, check out the Superman & Lois Season 2 premiere tonight at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW.
