With pre-production moving forward on The CW's next Arrowverse series Superman & Lois, the plot description of the planned series pilot episode has surfaced online, teasing a dark fate for a major character from the superhero's mythos.

Previous reports revealed the pilot will have Clark Kent settle into a newly imposed status quo, having been laid off from The Daily Planet. A new report indicates that shortly after losing their jobs, the pilot episode has the Man of Steel hear a plea from his adopted mother Martha to return home. However, upon his return to Smallville, Superman discovers that his mother is dead, from unspecified causes, when he arrives at the Kent family farm.

With earlier reports hinting that Jonathan Kent had passed away before the events off the upcoming series, Superman will be without either of his adopted parents as he continues to settle into parenthood himself, raising two teenage twin boys with Lois Lane.

While the pilot script does not overtly reveal the cause of Martha Kent's death, the series main antagonist will reportedly surface by the end of the episode to menace the Kent family. Whether the two are related is yet to be seen but Martha's death along with his firing is poised to bring Clark to his lowest personal point.

Superman & Lois was ordered straight-to-series by The CW last month, and pre-production is still underway for the DCTV series. The CW series is developed by Todd Helbing and stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch. The new Arrowverse series is expected to debut during the 2020-21 TV season.
