WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 2, Episode 3, "The Thing in the Mines," and Episode 4, "The Inverse Method."

While Superman & Lois threw a fake out with Season 2's supposed Doomsday reveal, star Tyler Hoechlin's time wearing his comic-accurate suit was no easy task.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Hoechlin described the Doomsday costume as "a suit inside a suit inside a suit." Praising its faithfulness to the source material, the Superman actor admitted, "It was a lot of layers, but it was fun. I mean, anytime you get to actually be in those things, you really feel like you're stepping into the comics. And that's a really cool thing to be able to do."

In addition to the costume, Season 2 established its new alien villain in a manner similar to Doomsday's The Death of Superman reveal, pounding away at a mountain from within in an attempt to break free. However, after confronting the creature, Superman & Lois revealed its supervillain to be Bizarro, who possesses a mysterious mental link with Superman and a pendant capable of sapping his strength during battle. Bizarro's origins have yet to be explained, though he shares his comic counterpart's emblem and pale skin -- albeit with facial tally mark scars -- and mirrored powers like flame breath.

Bizarro first appeared in 1958's Superboy #68 (written by Otto Binder and illustrated by George Papp) and, as a failed Superman clone, serves as the Man of Steel's negative in terms of rhetoric and abilities. Doomsday, meanwhile, famously appeared in 1992's The Death of Superman as a violent, prehistoric Kryptonian monster whom Superman engaged in a fight that killed both individuals. Bizarro has not only appeared in animated form on shows like Challenge of the Super Friends and Superman: The Animated Series, but also live-action shows like Superboy, Smallville and Supergirl. A version of Doomsday also debuted in Smallville and the DC movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with an animated adaptation of Death of Superman releasing in 2019.

In addition to Bizarro, Superman & Lois has also introduced a villain for Lois in the form of cult leader Ally Alston, whose name borrows from a version of Superman villain Parasite. It's revealed that Alston caused Lucy Lane (played again by Jenna Dewan) to attempt suicide, causing Lois to write an exposé that exposed her operations but deepened the rift with her sister. Season 2's The Inverse Method" also teased Alston discussing a mysterious process that her followers must follow to achieve personal enlightenment, but whether her motives are either supernatural or merely that of a dangerous cult remain unclear.

Superman & Lois returns Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW
