WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 2, Episode 5, "Girl... You'll Be a Woman, Soon," which aired Tuesday on The CW.
As much as Season 2 of Superman & Lois has been about the Kents, it's also dissected Lana Lang's family, giving us more insight into their dirty laundry. They seemed to heal problems from the first season after Kyle got jealous over his wife's success, but their daughter Sarah (played by Inde Navarrette) still had issues of her own that came out in the show's awkward teen romance arc.
Sarah had to mend fences after cheating on Jordan by kissing another girl. The show completely avoided any LGBTQ+ storyline for her, reunited with him instead of a potential love triangle. But just when it seemed like the ship was steady and they were building a healthy relationship again, the latest episode shattered the Lang family and potentially wrecked their renewed romance.
Kyle's affair with bartender Tawny -- a hookup during his and Lana's marital problems -- finally came out despite his best attempts at hiding the infidelity. Though Kyle had broken off the affair and chosen to stay with his family, Tawny was still trying to get his attention. She'd eventually show up at Sarah's quinceañera, where she informed Kyle that she didn't want to get back with him -- as much as she loved him, she respected the second chance he was eking out. She was there to tell him one of her friends was trying to sell their scandalous story to Mayor Dean so he could use it against Lana, who'd been gaining momentum in the election.
Kyle was stunned over the revelation, and he also didn't know that Sarah and Jordan were outside to overhear the entire conversation. It crushed Sarah because she had planned to take back Kyle's original family name Cortez after his ancestors changed it to Cushing to get work in Smallville. She tried to bottle her emotions during the dance, but she left in tears.
Lana confronted her daughter, getting her to spill the reason behind her breakdown. Kyle offered no defense for his sins, but Lana tried to keep a straight face with Sarah during the family conversation about the affair. She was adamant the ladies in the family would show resolve no matter what was thrown their way -- trying to inspire Sarah to keep her head up.
But with Kyle's secret out in the open, what will Sarah's home life be like now? Kyle's mom and a ton of family visited, so Lana may try to fake a happy home until they leave. However, seeing Sarah shaken up and possibly reminded of how she also cheated, Jordan is worried she'll slip back into depression. Superman & Lois foreshadows a lot of drama among Lana's family -- but luckily she has the Kents to lean on. The hard part will be balancing helping her family with her goal of helping Smallville.
