The CW recently released the long-awaited trailer for the upcoming television series, Superman and Lois. But while the series is the latest entry in the Arrowverse, it's fair to say the trailer exceeded fan expectations. Indeed, with its cinematic flair, different color-grading and grounded take on the Superman mythology, the series looks much different from the usual Arrowverse fare. Some have even compared the series to Zack Snyder's 2013 DC Extended Universe film, Man of Steel -- and those comparisons are completely valid, in the best possible way.

By setting itself apart from the rest of the pack with a single trailer, Superman and Lois has just jumped to the top of DC fans' watchlist -- and that is undoubtedly a good thing, because the series looks to be the shot in the arm the Arrowverse needs right now.

For years, the Arrowverse has had a steady roster of superhero shows that's included Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and Black Lightning. This created a tight shared universe that had fans excited for crossovers, as well as each individual series. However, things have changed in the past year: Arrow came to an end after eight seasons, star Ruby Rose left Batwoman and Supergirl is coming to an end this season, along with Black Lightning, even though both series were finally made official parts of the Arrowverse's Earth-Prime after last season's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover.

There is plenty of change in the air for the Arrowverse, which was spearheaded by the departure of the series that started it all. With Arrow now over, The Flash becomes the franchise's longest running series as well as the Arrowverse's new lead show, but fans were left wanting by a disappointing Season 6. It seems excitement for the Arrowverse as a whole has largely dwindled in the past year, and certain viewers might now find themselves less interested in whatever will remain of the franchise after Supergirl and Black Lightning both come to a close.

But leave it to Superman and Lois to spark interest in the Arrowverse once again. The trailer for the series promises something that is unlike any other show on The CW. It seems like a much more serious affair that does away with all of the campiness of Supergirl. The two title characters appear to be getting the series they deserve, and the cinematography and visual effects allow Superman to soar like few heroes have in the Arrowverse.

If anything, Superman and Lois could become the new flagship show of the CW's shared universe of superheroes. While other series may be coming to an end, this new beginning is already getting fans excited. If the quality of the trailer is anything to go by, then Superman and Lois will be something that truly stands apart -- and it could even inspire the remaining Arrowverse series to follow suit.

At first, Superman and Lois simply appeared to be an offshoot of Supergirl -- and fans had every reason to expect more of the same. But based on the trailer, it seems that isn't the case. The series appears to be forging its own path, and it looks like it will be truly worthy of Superman. In fact, it just might be the Arrowverse's savior.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Dylan Walsh, Alex Garfin, Jordan Elsass, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Inde Navarrette and Wolé Parks. The series premieres Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW.
