The King's Man director and producer Matthew Vaughn pitched a "colorful" Superman movie to Warner Bros. and still has hopes that one day, he will be able to film it.

In an interview with The Wrap, Vaughn explained that prior to Warner Bros. making Man of Steel in 2013, he approached the movie studio with his own ideas for a new movie about the Last Son of Krypton. "I was desperate to do a Superman film. Desperate. I pitched a big Superman movie before they made Man of Steel," he said.

Vaughn's pitch may not have been successful, but he still feels that his idea of a more "fun" Superman movie has potential. "I just got to work with [Man of Steel actor] Henry Cavill, which was lovely, on Argylle and he's unbelievable in it," said Vaughn. "I still think there's room for a new Superman film, but a proper Superman film. A colorful, fun Superman movie. Not a dark one." Vaughn's take on a lighter Superman movie would still star Cavill, as Vaughn says that he and Cavill could "go off and make a great Superman movie" if the opportunity arose.

For now, though, Vaughn is busy with the release of The King's Man, a prequel to his popular Kingsman franchise. The next movie in the main Kingsman canon, provisionally titled Kingsman: The Blue Blood, is due to start filming in 2022 and Vaughn said, "We're all set to go. We start filming in September."

Vaughn promises that this next movie will complete the story of the franchise's main protagonist, Taron Egerton's Eggsy. "We're shooting Kingsman 3 or 4, whatever you want to call it, next year. That's the conclusion of the Eggsy/Harry story," he said. "We're going down a road [where] if anyone was surprised by going World War One, they're going to think I've totally lost my mind for what Kingsman 3 is."

Even with Eggsy's story potentially wrapping up in Kingsman 3, Vaughn thinks there are still more stories to tell in the Kingsman world if people want to see them. "I do love the idea of exploring Statesman and the American side of it, but it's really up to the public," he explained. "I mean, if they enjoy it, and want another one then we'll make one. I don't want to overdo it. But also there has to be stories worth telling. It might happen, it might not. We’ll see."

The King's Man hits theaters Dec. 22.
