DC Comics' new Superman, Jon Kent, is getting an all-new suit in Superman: Son of Kal-El.

"Yes, what you've seen on the cover to issue #1 will change. So, yes, Superman, our Superman, Jon Kent, will be getting a new look," said series writer Tom Taylor during the Truth, Justice, and A Better DC Universe: A New Future for The Man of Steel panel during Comic-Con@Home 2021. Jon Kent's new suit can be seen during the virtual panel at the 18:10 time stamp.

During the panel, Taylor explained that a large part of Jon Kent's story in Son of Kal-El will be a journey of self-discovery. "Our story is about who [Jon] is today and it's about him finding who he is," Taylor said. "[And] how the son of Superman, the greatest hero in the world, becomes the next Superman for the current world." The new suit is part of that journey.

"The question I'm asking myself as the writer is exactly the same question that Jon's asking himself: it's, 'Who am I? What is my role in this world? What is the Superman of today?' And you know that's a tricky question," Taylor said.

It was announced in April 2021 that Taylor (Nightwing, DCeased, Suicide Squad) and artist John Timms (Young Justice, Harley Quinn) would be taking over DC Comics' Superman title with Superman: Son of Kal-El, starring Jonathan Kent, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The former Superboy replaced his father as Superman in the DC Future State event earlier this year, appearing in titles such as Future State: Superman of Metropolis, Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman and Future State: Justice League. Jonathan is also currently appearing in Superman and Action Comics.
