Superman actor Henry Cavill discussed his approach to playing the Man of Steel, revealing that he wants to present the Last Son of Krypton as a true hero.

In a video from GQ, Cavill described his most iconic roles in Hollywood and explained what he was going for while playing Superman and what he wants his audience to take from the performance. "I was very keen on really fleshing out Superman's early stages of his journey first. We had Man of Steel, and then we went quite a bit darker with Batman v Superman," he said. "If he [Superman] were to succumb to the Anti-Life Equation and become bad Superman, I really wanted to make sure we saw the hero Superman, and we saw the true symbol of hope, the beacon of light, before we went down the path of darkness and then redemption."

Cavill also expressed his desire to return as Clark Kent, saying, "It’s still something I’m very keen to flesh out," he added. "There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity."

To Cavill, presenting a heroic Superman will allow the audience to fully appreciate the character if he goes dark, as was hinted by Zack Snyder, the director of Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League. Cavill touched on Superman's redemption if such a reality is to be met, alluding to a fleshed-out story arc for his and Snyder's Kal-El.

He revealed that he has "seen the various rumors about [Marvel Cinematic Universe's] Captain Britain," and that it "would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that."

Regarding his return to the DC Extended Universe as Superman, there have been rumors about Warner Bros. moving forward with a sequel for Man of Steel, with Cavill not reprising his role as the Last Son of Krypton. It's also been reported that Cavill will not feature in any DCEU projects in the foreseeable future.

Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League are all available to stream on HBO Max.
