WARNING: The following contains spoilers for "The Many Deaths of Superman" from Future State: Superman - Worlds of War #2 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Mikel Janin, Jordie Bellaire & Dave Sharpe, on sale now

The Future State era has radically transformed multiple sections of the world, with locations such as Wayne Manor now being utilized for entirely different purposes than they were in the past. But one major home for DC's most foundational hero doesn't even technically exist anymore, and is now reduced to forgotten ruins.

Future State just revealed that sometime in the future, the Kent Farm will be targeted by a cyborg villain and will be reduced to rubble. While the world believes the farm is rebuilt, it's actually a decoy, with the original home for DC's most powerful hero being left to become nothing more than just another field in the American heartland.

Sadie was introduced in the previous issue of Future State: Superman: Worlds of War. A Metropolis native who was out of the city when it was shrunk by Jon Kent, Sadie still believes in the message of Superman and what his crusade to save the world was really about. Coming to Smallville -- which in the Future State-era has become more or less a tourist trap full of Superman memorabilia -- Sadie is disappointed to find that most people are obsessed with the powers of Superman rather than his actions. In Superman: Worlds of War #2, Sadie, ventures further into the town followed by one of the boys from the group, who walks with her in the dark.

As they make their way through the farmland, Sadie reveals that she's heading to the original site of the Kent Farm. It turns out that the publicly recognized Kent Farm -- the one next to a museum dedicated to the history of Superman -- is actually a fake. The true Kent farm was, according to Sadie, actually "trashed" by a cyborg at some point in the years between the present-day and the events of Future State. When the pair arrive, they discover a small lot, with pieces of scrap metal and weathered wood where the farm once stood. While exploring the space, they discover a cellar door over grown with grass and pry it open to find the rocket that brought infant Kal-El to Earth.

The Kent Farm has been a key element of Superman and his origins since the Golden Age. It's been Clark Kent's true home in the middle of America, and a frequent place of tranquility and peace for the Man of Steel and his loved ones. It's where he learned how to be a good man, and it's his time there that defined the kind of hero he would become. Given the legacy that Superman and his family have cemented for themselves in the future of the DC Universe, it's surprising to learn that the real Kent Farm isn't one of the most reverent locations in the world.

With Superman's identity revealed to the world, it makes sense that someone would attack the farm in a bid to hurt Superman. While it isn't made clear who was responsible for the attack -- with the obvious candidates ranging from Mentallo to Cyborg-Superman -- it was clearly a devastating enough attack that Superman and his family decided against rebuilding and just left it to be taken back by the Earth.

Instead, they created a more public "Kent Farm." This suggests that the attack may have been more devastating than previous assaults on the Kent family. It could have even possibly resulted in the deaths of Jon or Martha Kent, with the lingering pain over their loss being an understandable reason why Superman and the rest of the family might choose to let the plot be forgotten by the world. It's a surprisingly somber ending for the Kent house and farm, with one of DC's most important legacies being born in a place that no longer exists. It may remain for the rest of time as a final monument for the family and nothing more, and not a deeply honored one either -- just a pile of scrap in a field, with even the original Kryptonian rocket being left behind to rust under the ruins of the farm.
