SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for "Action Comics" #975. Do not read any further if you want to be surprised on Wednesday, March 8!

The true identity of the being who has been masquerading as Clark Kent is none other than... a major character from Superman's past. (We're giving you one last chance to turn away without being spoiled, here!)

The reveal, reported by Comics Alliance, is a surprise, and yet entirely logical. Dan Jurgens, Doug Mahnke and the rest of the "Action Comics" creative team's upcoming issue will show that longtime Superman foe Mr. Mxyzptlk is the person who has been running around the Rebirth universe in the Man of Steel's non-super powered alter-ego.

While the revelation explains much about not-Clark's odd behavior, it still leaves many questions, particularly since Mxyzpltlk has only been seen once since the New 52 rebooted DC Comics continuity in 2011. The character appeared alongside a young Superman/Clark Kent in a story by Grant Morrison and Rags Morales, and hasn't been seen since, leading us to wonder if this is the same Mxyzptlk, or if readers are about to be treated to another holdover from the pre-Flashpoint DCU, a la Wally West and the current Superman and Lois Lane.

Though the story on Comics Alliance doesn't get into details, it does promise that the reasons for the charade are explored in a back-up feature by Paul Dini and Ian Churchill. CBR will dive into the historical relevance of the Fifth Dimensional imp's masquerade, as well as an exploration of what it might mean for the Rebirth Universe moving forward once the issue arrives Wednesday, March 8.
