The following article contains spoilers from DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1, on sale now.

The final battle against the Anti-Life virus has begun, and the heroes of Earth may have gained their best weapon against it in the form of Superman. DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 (by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Andy Lanning, Rain Beredo, Said Temofonte) saw the new Justice League successfully cure an undead Superman, restoring him to his former self minus an arm. However, what Superman did while the Anti-Life virus controlled him may have given them an edge against the undead gods.

During his five years as a zombie, Superman retreated into the sun, residing there for five years. As a being who gains power from solar energy, this saturation empowered him to untold degrees. Even the most powerful members of the Justice League together could barely restrain him, and had it been a straight fight, they would likely have lost. Assuming Superman has retained this power after being revived, then he is their best defense in the war.

Undead Superman Is Supercharged

No evidence has been given to suggest that there was any loss of power upon being revived. The Man of Steel seems to be just as effective as ever, quickly dismantling Brainiac's army alongside his son, Jon. It stands to reason then, that he still holds that vast power within him. However, now that he's cured, he's less likely to use those powers. This is Superman after all, even at the worst of times he holds back to keep death at a minimum. He would likely view this increase in power as something to be reserved for emergencies, or never to be used at all.

Even if he contemplated using it, there is another problem. When this pandemic first began, the heroes operated under the assumption that the people affected by the Anti-Life virus were truly lost. As a result, they were free to use lethal force, even if it broke their hearts to do so. But now that there is a cure and everyone infected can be saved, killing the victims is no longer acceptable.

Overpowered Superman

Superman will likely fight the way he always has -- with the safety of all parties in mind. That, however, will come with its own problems. He isn't going to be fighting against other metahumans or civilians who were turned in the chaos. There is a reason this is called the war of the undead gods. The beings coming for him and his allies are the forces of New Genesis and in all likelihood -- Apokolips.

Superman will need all the power he can muster just to hold them back let alone defeat them. Then there is Darkseid himself to consider. There is no telling how being infected by the Anti-Life equation has affected or even enhanced his abilities. What is clear is that a war unlike anything the Justice League has faced is coming, and every bit of help counts.
