Superman's boyfriend is about to get a super suit of his own.

DC Comics revealed its solicitations for August 2022 and details for Superman: Son of Kal-El #14, a series written by Tom Taylor that focuses on Clark Kent's son, Jon, serving as Earth's main Superman while his father is off-world in Action Comics. The synopsis for the issue states that "Jay Nakamura must embrace his powers and become the hero Jon knows he can be," and Son of Kal-El #14's main cover by Travis Moore shows Jay and Jon together, with Jay sporting a new blue and white costume.

  • Henry Bendix has threatened and manipulated and killed without consequence. Now, after a shocking coordinated attack on Earth’s heroes, it’s time for Superman, Jay, and the Revolutionaries to strike back. But first, Jay Nakamura must embrace his powers and become the hero Jon knows he can be.

Jay Nakamura first appeared in Superman: Son of Kal-El #2 as the voice behind "The Truth," a journalistic group focused on exposing corruption and evil in the world, particularly in the island nation of Gamorra controlled by President Henry Bendix. Jay's mother, Sara Nakamura, was the former president of Gamorra before Bendix won the election and had her removed from the public eye, and not even her son knows where she was taken. Jay was experimented on by Bendix along with many others and gained powers that enabled him to move through solid objects and escape his captivity.

Though they meet in the series' second issue, Son of Kal-El #5 features the first kiss between Jon and Jay, revealing Jon Kent's bisexuality in comics for the first time ever. The two have been together since then, with Jon joining The Truth alongside Jay, coming out to his mother Lois Lane and shooting down the suspicions that Batman has about Jay. Because Jay is associated with the Revolutionaries, a team of anti-heroes not opposed to killing, the Caped Crusader believes that Jon's boyfriend cannot be trusted.

Superman: Son of Kal-El #14's solicitation teases that Jon, Jay and the Revolutionaries will all team up to fight against President Bendix following a "shocking coordinated attack on Earth's heroes." This was shown in the series' crossover with Nightwing, another title penned by Taylor, where Gamorra's post-humans (individuals given superpowers) hunt down and kill heroes like Risk, a former member of the Teen Titans. The Gamorrans try and fail to kill Nightwing as well, and the crossover ends with the revelation that Superman nemesis Lex Luthor is working with Bendix and the Gamorran President framing Jon for murder.

The upcoming issue is written by Taylor with interior art from Cian Tormey and main cover art by Moore. Variant covers for the issue are contributed to by Rafael Sarmento, Travis Mercer and Danny Miki. The issue goes on sale Aug. 9 from DC Comics.
