This article contains major spoilers for Black Adam, in theaters now.

That major cameo in Warner Bros. and DC Films' Black Adam was reportedly a one-time deal.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision newsletter, Henry Cavill reportedly made a one-off deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to reprise his DC Extended Universe role as Superman in for a post-credit scene in Black Adam. While it's unclear when or if Cavill will return to the DCEU, the studio is reportedly extremely interested in Cavill's return to the franchise, including a solo project.

Prior to the film's release, Johnson repeatedly teased that Black Adam would mark a "new era" for the DCEU, with the DC film marking the return of Cavill's Superman. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and the heads of Warner Bros. Pictures, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, are extremely interested in seeing Cavill reprise his DCEU role as Superman.

Will Superman Return?

The project, which is actively searching for writers to pen the script, would effectively serve as a sequel to 2013's Man of Steel and be produced by Charles Roven. Mission: Impossible writer/director Christopher McQuarrie was apparently at the top of the list, though either Warner Bros. Discovery has not reached out to him or he is too busy with the next few installments of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Reports that Warner Bros. was considering bringing Cavill back to the DCEU began circulating in August, though those reports remained unconfirmed by the studio at the time. Many anticipated the actor would appear at 2022's San Diego Comic-Con, and his absence met with disappointment from fans.

Johnson has also confirmed that he "absolutely" has plans for a Black Adam vs. Superman film. "That is the whole point of this, man," he said. "I have been saying for some time, there's a new era in the DC Universe that's about to begin. And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It's not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was...you know, Black Adam!"

Starring Johnson in the title role, Black Adam is a spinoff of 2019's Shazam! and marks the DCEU debut of the JSA (Justice Society of America), which will consist of Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam stars Johnson as the titular anti-hero and arrives in theaters on Oct. 21, 2022.
