There have only been a couple of significant love interests in the life of Clark Kent. Among them, Lois Lane has stood out as the one true love of Superman. No one will over surpass her.

But while that may be the case, there are several other women that would also make great pairings alongside Superman. In the DC universe, there is an equal number of women who would make terrible pairings with him. Here are five Superman pairings that would make a lot of sense, and five that would be awful.

10 Make Sense: Big Barda

A former member of Darkseid's squad of female Furies, Big Barda has proven herself to be an incredibly powerful hand to hand combatant. That is one of the reasons that she would be an amazing match for Superman.

A battle-hardened warrior like Big Barda usually enjoys being with a man that can equal her strength. There are very few men in the DC universe that can meet those qualifications. Superman is definitely one of them.

9 Awful: Black Canary

The leather jacket-wearing Black Canary patrols the streets at night in search of dangerous thugs to beat on. While Superman is fighting world-ending threats up in the sky, Black Canary is simply fighting threats to the neighborhood in backrooms and dark alleys.

Her dark and mysterious nature just doesn't fit well with the bright colors and massive spectacle that Superman brings with him. It seems unrealistic that Superman and Black Canary would be able to overcome these differences.

8 Make Sense: Starfire

Starfire prepares to fire

Much like Superman, Starfire was actually born on a faraway alien planet. Coming to Earth was a new experience for her, one that didn't happen to be very easy for her.

Being two aliens that now live on Earth, there would be a lot of ways that Starfire and Superman could relate to one another. Relating to your partner is very important for any couple, so these shared commonalities would set up Superman and Starfire for long term success.

7 Awful: Huntress

Helena Bertinelli, the daughter of members of the mafia, was forced to watch her family die at a very young age. When she grew up, Helena decided to take vengeance on the rival gangs and hunted them down, one by one, as a brutal vigilante named Huntress.

Superman is supposed to be a beacon of hope for the people of Earth. Huntress seems to serve the exact opposite purpose. Their dueling philosophies would make for an absolutely horrible pairing.

6 Make Sense: Hawkgirl

An ancient princess from another planet, Hawgirl was born to be a great warrior. Every time that she is forced into combat, Hawkgirl relishes the chance to use her trusty mace to pound her enemies into a bloody pulp.

Both of these heroes are battle-tested. They've been through fights so intense that the sheer violence is unimaginable to the mortal man. Alongside one another, they'd make up the fiercest warrior duo in the entire universe. They'd probably even be in the running for fiercest pair in the multiverse.

5 Awful: Raven

A longtime member of the Teen Titans, Raven is a dangerous magic user with demonic origins. The one thing that Superman is weak to, not counting Kryptonite, is magic.

Due to this fact, Superman wouldn't want to be anywhere near Raven, ever. That might be enough of a problem to keep these two from entering a relationship, but it also doesn't help that Raven is the creepy daughter of an extra-dimensional god that wants to destroy the universe.

4 Make Sense: Wonder Woman

Superman and Wonder Woman actually did have a relationship during the New 52 era of comic books. While this relationship was somewhat short-lived, it gave fans a good look at how these two Justice Leaguers would interact with each other romantically.

If anything was proven during that long stint that they were together, it was that Wonder Woman and Superman actually are an amazing pair for one another. Unfortunately, the two Justice League founders eventually parted ways. That being said, it was an amazing relationship while it lasted.

3 Awful: Catwoman

While Catwoman is a great love interest for Superman's best buddy Batman, she wouldn't make quite as good of a romantic partner for the Man of Steel himself.

When Superman is choosing his romantic interests, they tend to always be morally upstanding individuals. Without a doubt that is not the case with Catwoman. Batman was able to reel her in and help her change. Superman would be much less capable of doing so, namely because he's too much of a boy scout for her to take him seriously.

2 Make Sense: Superwoman

You just have to put Lois Lane somewhere on this list. There's no better place to put her than at the number one spot. When this relationship appeared to be at its most compatible, Lois had acquired Kryptonian abilities and took on the persona of Superwoman.

From her debut, Lois always had amazing chemistry with Superman. Upon gaining similar abilities to him, they instantly became a perfect match. Beforehand, Clark always had to be careful around her as not to hurt her. After she became Superwoman, the gloves were officially off.

1 Awful: Harley Quinn

Is there a worse match for Superman than the former lover of the most murderous character in all of DC comics? Probably not. Harley Quinn is quickly becoming one of DC's most popular characters. That doesn't mean she's any better of a match for Superman though.

Although many DC writers like to pretend that Harley Quinn wasn't so bad back in the day, anyone who actually read the comics she was in knows that that isn't true. She's killed countless innocents that we are aware of. Not exactly the type of morally upstanding woman that Clark would like to be seen with.
