As the hype builds for Superman & Lois' third season, it's becoming increasingly clear the Kents will face emotional challenges like never before. The trailer foreshadows Lois Lane's death, leaving fans concerned about Clark Kent's future. He can't function well without his wife, so it's possible that Season 3 is adapting Clark's Injustice storyline or otherwise putting him through the wringer.

Clark's turning to evil or self-destruction would make even more sense on the TV show since Lois and Clark have been through so much more as a family. However, while he would certainly be affected if Lois dies or goes missing, someone else could take the development even harder. Lois and Clark's son Jordan -- AKA Superboy -- may go into even more of a spiral than his father.

Superman & Lois' Season 3 May Make Superboy a Liability

Clark hugs Jordan in Superman and Lois Season 2

Superman & Lois has proven Jordan is immature and doesn't cope well with high-pressure situations. That's been seen when he wanted to out his powers and Kryptonian heritage to his girlfriend Sarah, as well as when he ventured out into battle when he didn't have full control of his abilities. His intentions are always pure and innocent, but he doesn't have the best judgment on a good day.

While Jordan has a better handle on himself after Season 2 -- especially since he's no longer keeping a secret from Sarah -- Superman & Lois may understandably have Jordan regress whether or not Lois dies. Jordan will react badly to whatever happens to his mom, and it may be made worse if Clark isn't able to support him because he's going through his own trauma.

Jordan trying to find Lois or aiming to get revenge on those responsible for her death are relatable ideas. But with Michael Cudlitz's new Lex Luthor arriving plus the presence of Bruno Mannheim and Intergang, an uncontrollable Jordan would endanger himself and his family. He can even be a threat to the public at an already difficult time.

Superman & Lois' Superboy May Have to Rein in Sam

The Superman & Lois Season 3 trailer also showed Sam Lane and Clark arguing over Lois' disappearance. If Sam can't trust Clark, he could turn to Jordan, whom he's been training. Sam, distraught over his daughter, may ask Jordan to break rules and bend his moral compass in a way Clark would never want him to. That could result in Jordan having to turn on Sam in order to rein him in -- which would truly damage the Lane-Kent family.

There's also no telling if Clark's powers would be affected by his emotional state. If Clark's vulnerability impacts him as Superman, that would be further responsibility on Jordan's shoulders. That would really burden a Superboy who might not be ready to deal with all these challenges. The trailer raises a number of important questions: if Sam and Jordan's master-apprentice dynamic will go south, if Clark can be around to patch things or if Jordan will have to tend to everyone, quickly transitioning from Superboy to Superman himself.

Superman and Lois Season 3 premieres Tuesday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
