A new Superman & Lois set photo just revealed the Man of Steel's revamped suit in Season 3.The unofficial behind-the-scenes snap surfaced on Twitter. It shows star Tyler Hoechlin wearing a subtly upgraded version of the Superman costume he wore in Season 2. The most notable update to the Last Son of Krypton's threads is the raised S-shield on Hoechlin's chest, however, the design of his boots also appears to have been slightly tweaked, as well. The pronounced seams on the torso and shoulders featured on the Superman & Lois Season 2 costume also seem to be missing this time around, although it's impossible to say for certain whether this is indeed the case, due to the set photo's relatively low resolution. The Man of Steel's new outfit isn't the only big change in store for fans when Superman & Lois Season 3 finally arrives. Warner Bros. Television announced in August 2022 that Jordan Elsass was leaving the show for personal reasons and confirmed that the Jonathan Kent role would be recast. The studio moved quickly to fill the role, with Australian actor Michael Bishop locked in to replace Elsass as Jonathan less than a month later. Superman & Lois is Bishop's first major supporting role in a US television series, although he played the love interest in 2021 Disney Channel Original Movie Spin.

Can Superman & Lois Save the Arrowverse?

While Bishop joining the Superman & Lois cast kept Season 3 on track, actor David Ramsey recently suggested that the future of the wider Arrowverse (of which the show is part) rests on further recastings. Ramsey, who previously guest starred as an alternate version of his Arrow character John Diggle in Superman & Lois, suggested that the Arrowverse could live on by introducing new versions of established heroes and villains. "[P]erhaps there’s a world where we can explore the Flash, or maybe just Barry Allen," he said. "Maybe he is Flash, maybe he isn’t. Is Oliver Queen alive? Maybe he is. Maybe the [Green Lantern] ring is still there?"

Of course, for Ramsey's plan to work, not every Arrowverse role would need to be recast, so long as returning cast members are happy to play new versions of their old characters. Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch recently indicated that Supergirl's Melissa Benoist is onboard with this approach, having already confided in Tulloch that she's keen to reprise the Supergirl role.

Superman & Lois Season 3 is set to premiere on The CW in 2023.
