Created by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing, Superman & Lois premiered in 2021 and stars Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The show sees them moving to Smallville to raise their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, and sees them contending with such threats as Bizarro and Morgan Edge. In March, The CW officially renewed both Superman & Lois and The Flash.

While those two shows were renewed, The CW opted not to continue a number of other DC-related series. The CW canceled DC's Legends of Tomorrow after seven seasons, putting an end to the long-running show and leaving the Arrowverse series off on a cliffhanger. Batwoman and Naomi were also both canceled, ending after seasons 3 and 1, respectively.

Despite those high-profile Arrowverse cancelations, The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz said the network was "staying in the superhero business." Currently, the network is working on another season of Stargirl and a new show titled Gotham Knights, which focuses on characters related to the Batman mythos.

The Arrowverse began with Arrow, which debuted in 2012. That series followed Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and set up a number of the series that came after it. Arrow ended with Season 8 in 2020. Due to the show's aforementioned renewal for Season 9, The Flash will become the Arrowverse's longest-running series.
