John Diggle actor David Ramsey has hinted that Superman and Lois may keep the Arrowverse alive past The Flash's upcoming ninth and final season.

The Direct was in attendance at DragonCon's "Arrow Guests: Saving Star City" panel where Ramsey talked about his recent story arc across the Arrowverse shows and how the DC shared universe could live on in Superman and Lois. "It’s not resolved. Eric [Wallace] called me, showrunner of The Flash, and he had a pitch for me to end the saga, the Green Lantern Saga within the Arrowverse. And the reason why he did is because the Arrowverse was ending, right? It’s gonna end with Flash and um- all the other shows would go," Ramsey explained. "And we knew, not at the time, I knew but you didn’t know yet, that Todd [Helbing] was going to reveal in Superman & Lois that the Superman & Lois-verse, if you will, exists on another planet, on a different Earth, and these characters are still alive. And the idea is perhaps there’s a world where we can explore the Flash, or maybe just Barry Allen. Maybe he is Flash, maybe he isn’t. Is Oliver Queen alive? Maybe he is. Maybe the ring is still there?"

While Superman and Lois was initially believed to also take place on Earth-Prime, the series' Season 2 finale established that the popular DC series was set on its own world and not on Earth-Prime, which is home to Grant Gustin's The Flash, Melissa Benoist's Supergirl and the Legends of Tomorrow. Superman and Lois showrunner Todd Helbing explained that they decided to keep Superman and Lois separate from the rest of the Arrowverse to allow the creative team to put their "own stamp on the Superman property. This wasn’t meant to alienate us from the Arrowverse, but because a lot of the other shows are sadly no longer going to be on the air, it felt like the right thing to do."

Superman and Lois Season 3 Casts Its Big Bad

Ramsey also announced at DragonCon that The Orville's Chad L. Coleman, who previously played villain Tobias Church in Arrow, would be playing one of the big bads in the third season of Superman and Lois. While it was not confirmed who Coleman would play in Season 3, DC fans have speculated that the actor has been cast as Intergang crime boss Bruno Mannheim. The DC villain was first teased by Ramsey's John Diggle in Superman and Lois' Season 2 finale when Diggle approached John Henry Irons/Steel to ask for his help in investigating the criminal activities of Intergang. Steel has a personal connection to Mannheim and Intergang as it was Mannheim that killed the Superman and Lois Earth's version of Irons.

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch headline Superman and Lois as the titular couple. The series also stars Alex Garfin, Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Dylan Walsh and Emmanuelle Chriqui. Jordan Elsass was initially expected to return as Jonathan Kent for Season 3 but departed before filming began to focus on his mental health. Warner Bros. TV has confirmed that the role of Jonathan Kent will be recast before filming begins in September.

Season 3 of the Arrowverse-adjacent series is expected to premiere on The CW in 2023.
