Lex Luthor is finally coming to Superman and Lois, with the iconic supervillain set to make his debut in the upcoming Season 3.
Per Entertainment Weekly, Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead) has been cast as Lex Luthor, who is "known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with." According to the official character description, "When Lex debuts this season, it's been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he's re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch)."
Cudlitz is best known for playing Sgt. Abraham Ford on The Walking Dead. He appeared as the fan-favorite character in Seasons 4 through 7 of the zombie drama series and also returned for a cameo in a Season 9 episode. He also starred in TNT's Southland, HBO's Band of Brothers miniseries and ABC's The Kids Are Alright.
Superman and Lois Will Have Their Hands Full in Season 3
In addition to Cudlitz's Lex Luthor, Superman and Lois Season 3 will feature the debut of The Orville's Chad L. Coleman as Intergang crime boss Bruno Mannheim. The DC villain was first teased by John Diggle in Superman & Lois' Season 2 finale when John Diggle approached John Henry Irons/Steel to ask for his help in investigating the criminal activities of Intergang. The casting marks Coleman's first comic book-related role since playing villain Tobias Church in four episodes of Arrow during its fifth season in 2016.
Superman and Lois Season 3 will begin several weeks after the Big Blue Boy Scout defeated Ally Allston, with Clark and Lois now working together at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small-town life. However, according to the season synopsis, "Lois' own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough."
Starring alongside Hoechlin and Tulloch as the titular couple in Season 3 are Alex Garfin as Jordan Kent, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Inde Navarrette as Sarah Cortez, Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons, Tayler Buck as Natalie Irons, Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo, Dylan Walsh as Samuel Lane and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang-Cushing. The upcoming season will also feature the debut of Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent, replacing Jordan Elsass who departed the series after Season 2.
Superman and Lois season 3 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, March 14.
