While the season finale of Superman & Lois, "Waiting for Superman," revealed that the Man of Steel's new TV adventures don't take place on the Arrowverse's Earth-Prime, series co-creator and showrunner Todd Helbing knows how he would introduce Supergirl, the character whose own show gave viewers leading man Tyler Hoechlin's Last Son of Krypton, into this new universe.

Helbing delved into the topic during an interview with The Flash Podcast, where he was asked what the Superman & Lois universe's Girl of Steel is like in his head canon, and whether or not Supergirl star Melissa Benoist would reprise the role. "Yeah, it would not be the Supergirl from the Arrowverse, it would be our version so we would invent a new backstory for her," Helbing replied. "The same way that we did with Lucy [Lane], General Lane, and John Diggle, the same way with John Diggle"

"They may be their doppelganger and they may look exactly the same," Helbing clarified. "But it would be a completely different story."

Tying into his comment about John Diggle, Helbing had previously confirmed that the version seen on Superman & Lois isn't the same one from Earth-Prime. "This is also a new Diggle," he said at the time. "[The character's actor] David Ramsey had grown a beard and grew his hair out. He called me and said, 'I've been growing my hair, I look different. Do you want me to shave and get a haircut?' So not to add more confusion to it, but he’s a different Diggle."

Ironically, prior to this revelation about the show, it had been announced back in 2020 that there were plans to do a crossover between Superman & Lois and Batwoman -- which, unlike the former series, did take place on Earth-Prime -- for 2021. Regarding said crossover, Batwoman creator and showrunner Caroline Dries admitted that she had no idea how it would work, but went along with it, going on to state that she was "sure [she and Helbing would] cook up something really special" and that it would be "interesting for [Superman and Batwoman] to work together," though the crossover ultimately never happened.

Superman & Lois was announced to have been renewed alongside fellow DC show The Flash and other shows on The CW such as Kung Fu and Walker earlier this year. Beyond this announcement, plot details for the series' upcoming third season are currently under wraps.

Season 3 of Superman & Lois currently does not have a premiere date.
