WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Action Comics #1008 by Brian Michael Bendis, Steve Epting, Brad Anderson, and Josh Reed, on sale now.

The government agencies of the DC Universe are under attack, and the whole thing is hitting pretty close to home for Superman. Task Force X and Kobra were previously destroyed right in the middle of Metropolis. In this issue, the DEO becomes the latest victim of Leviathan's attack. Now it looks like Superman has been roped into the conflict and will play a major role in the events that follow.

You may not think someone as powerful as the Man of Steel would be involved in such a storyline, but the ending of Action Comics #1008 puts the Kryptonian right in the middle of the ongoing conflict. After years of combativeness, it appears that one of Superman's enemies may have known his secret identity all along, and it changes everything for him.

The Wall Knows All

Amanda Waller was previously saved by Superman when he caught her falling off the roof of a building. Task Force X had been destroyed, but Waller managed to survive. This issue, the Wall continues to investigate what exactly happened to her agency, and it brings her into contact with Sam Lane, an important government figure. Unfortunately, things don't go well for the two of them.

They are set up and attacked by their mysterious pursuers, forcing the two of them to make an escape for their lives. While Lane is seemingly captured by their unknown assailant, Amanda Waller manages to escape and run off to find help. Where does she end up going? The last place you would ever consider -- Clark Kent's home.

Waller doesn't just come to Kent's home looking for a respectable journalist, she's there for Superman himself. In fact, she refers to Clark as Superman, making it immediately clear that she knows his secret identity. It's hard to tell how she could possibly know this information, but for someone of her capabilities, it's possible she has known for some time now.

Have Secrets Been Told?

It's difficult to say how Amanda Waller could know that Clark Kent was Superman, but there are only one of two possibilities. Either she has known all this time and was only keeping the secret until she absolutely needed his help, or someone told her. In the latest issue of Action Comics, it is clear that she is at the end of her rope and needs someone to rescue her from the destruction of her agency.

Perhaps this is a piece of information she has been holding close to her chest for a long time, but there's a more likely situation. While Waller has been infiltrated on a professional level, Sam Lane's personal life has been blown apart. Lois Lane has only just revealed to him that Clark Kent is actually Superman, and now it's clear that the revelation has gotten to him.

Waller questions Lane, a noted Superman hater, and by the way their conversation goes, it becomes clear that something has changed in their dynamic. Considering Amanda Waller is effectively a super spy, it would not be impossible that she made the (correct) conclusion from their conversation: If Lois, Sam's daughter, told him something that changed his opinion on Superman, it must mean that Clark Kent is actually the Man of Steel.

The next thing we see is Waller showing up at the front door of the Kent residence knowing exactly who she was looking for. Now, it's worth wondering what this means for everyone going forward. Amanda Waller is a dangerous figure in the DC Universe, but if she knows the secret identity of Superman, there's no telling what she could do with that information.

Imagine a situation where Waller gains back her power and uses the Suicide Squad to go after the Man of Steel, or even the entire Lane family, because she views them as a threat to society. It seems that the assembled players will have to survive Leviathan's attack first, but it's not hard to imagine these two running into conflict again once this threat has been neutralized. It's possible that Lois Lane may have ultimately doomed her husband.
