Manipulating time is not a skill one sees very often in the superhero world as it is very difficult to acquire and can cause many issues in comic book canon. In the Marvel as well as the DC Universe, there are a selection of superheroes who can play with time and while some of them might have similar methods, they all have unique motivations which make them stand apart from one another.

Not every superhero who can manipulate time is one of the strongest of the bunch, yet they have a say in the outcome due to their ability to travel into the past or look into the future. But being able to win a battle doesn't automatically make a hero cool. There are a lot of factors that go into a hero's coolness score including their name, costume, persona, and actions.

10 Booster Gold

DC Comics Booster Gold

Booster Gold has to be one of the worst superhero names ever and unfortunately his background story is rather dull as well. This hero comes from the future - knowing all the crimes that are about to take place - to stop all kinds of nerfarious things.

And he did it so he could bask in the glory. Other than traveling through time, Booster Gold has no other inherent superpower, which means, he is just a vigilante. Moreover, it is important to note that his costume is rather uninspired which does place him quite low on the coolness meter.

9 Bishop

Bishop might be a popular face in the history of X-Men but his background story is pretty standard. Coming from a future where mutants are killed for being mutants, Bishop is the living and breathing example of why the X-Men must make sure that their Earth doesn't see that kind of dark future.

When he traveled to the present day, Bishop had only one thing in mind. And to achieve his target, he, obviously, sided with Charles Xavier, becoming his bodyguard as a result.

8 Cable

Cable from Marvel

Cable is a mutant, who was sent to the future as soon as he was born. So one can say that he knows the trade of time traveling all too well. Cable's sole purpose is to stop the future that's coming. He has lived in the future and therefore he knows exactly what will happen.

He is not someone who will sit around and watch the world crumble in front of eyes. One cool thing about Cable is Apocalypse believed that he is the one who will be responsible for his death and that's why his parents sent Cable to the future.

7 Green Lantern

Green Lantern Hal Jordan Season 2

Yes, Green Lanterns do possess the ability to travel through time but they don't because they know the effects it would have and because they require a huge amount of willpower to make it happen.

Hal Jordan, who is one of the greatest Green Lanterns in the history of the DC Comics, traveled through time. He took up the name Pol Manning and brought down a government in the future. The funny thing is that Hal didn't remember doing something like that right away.

6 Waverider

dc comics

Waverider is not your average superhuman time traveler. First of all, he can travel through time at will but on top of that, he can also predict the futures of anyone just by touching them. It should be noted that Waverider first traveled through time to avoid facing his own future but that didn't work out very well.

The moral of the story is that a superhero, capable of time traveling, should first consider the repercussions of distorting a certain timeline before making the jump. Waverider didn't and the world paid the price.

5 The Flash

Barry Allen's Flash runs at top speed.

The Flash travels through time by making use of the most popular scientific fact. Barry Allen can travel at a speed faster than light and if someone can do that, they can travel into the past or the future.

This skill of his has been dubbed as the cosmic treadmill. He has altered the timeline numerous times, using this superpower, most notably in the Flashpoint and Crisis on Infinite Earths storylines. Sometimes, even Superman has traveled through time using The Flash's method.

4 Doctor Strange

marvel

Doctor Strange might not be the strongest time-traveling superhero, but he is the most creative. He has a range of superpowers due to his understanding of the mystic arts, ranging from teleportation to dimensional travel.

Being the Sorcerer Supreme on Earth, Doctor Strange has been given the responsibility of looking after the Time Stone and as a result, he has manipulated time several times but only when it has been absolutely necessary.

3 The Spectre

Night Spectre in the Marvel vs DC Amalgam universe

The Spectre has an aspect of God in him; after all, he has come into existence due to The Presence. DC's Spirit of Vengeance has to act in the boundaries set on him by the mythical forces and thus, he doesn't use his ability to travel through time quite as often as others.

The brilliant thing about the Spectre is that time travel isn't even the best of his superpowers. He can alter reality, manipulate cosmic energy, and is nigh-omnipotent, among other wonderful things.

2 Doctor Manhattan

Doctor Manhattan comes back to life

Jonathan Osterman looks like an unbeatable enemy for any supervillain. He doesn't have a physical body, instead, he exists thanks to his energy. He sees time differently than others. He has a linear view, meaning he can look at the future, past, and the present simultaneously.

The good thing about Doctor Manhattan is that he doesn't care about the good or the bad happenings in the DC Universe. He just gets involved in the things he feels good about.

1 Franklin Richards

Franklin Richards feature

Franklin Richards is an omega-level mutant, meaning his superpowers are similar, or even greater, to some celestial beings. He can not only travel through time, but he can also foresee some events through his dreams.

The most incredible superpower he has is the ability to convert his thoughts into reality.
