Now that Supergirl has come to an end, many fans are left missing their favorite characters, but also reeling from the excitement of the last season finale. However, there are also several missed opportunity areas that the last episode did not include, which has led to many fans feeling disappointed.

Some of these things are plot-related, but others have more to do with the characterization of several heroes and villains on Supergirl. Regardless of that, there are definitely many things that would have made the Supergirl finale a better experience, worthy of the end of such an iconic show.

10 William's Importance Was Incoherent With The Rest Of The Show

From the moment he was introduced in the show, William Dey seem to be destined to become an important addition to the Super Friends team. However, it never happened. He stayed on the show, floating around with different sub-plots until the sixth season when he was murdered by Lex.

Although the writers attempted to make the audience like William, or at least acknowledge his importance, by giving him emotional scenes with the rest of the team, they did not manage to convey the relevance of this character in the story, so his death as one of the dramatic peaks of the finale was a wasted narrative device.

9 Lillian Luthor's Redemption Arc Paled In Comparison To Others

Lillian Luthor

After dying trying to save Lex in battle, his mother, Lillian Luthor, is rescued by Lena, her daughter, who tries to heal her wounds. Once it becomes obvious that the woman is going to die, she has an emotional conversation with her daughter about Lena's magic powers, apparently setting Lena free from her trauma.

However, the problematic relation between Lena and Lillian feels far from fixed, since it is abandoned for almost three seasons up until this moment. Not only does Lillian sacrifice herself to save the villain of the show, but she barely acknowledges the pain she caused her adoptive daughter. Hers is barely a redemption arc.

8 Acrata Was Wasted As A Character... Again

Andrea Rojas first appeared in the show during its fifth season and she was introduced as the new owner of CatCo, while also being an assassin for Leviathan. But after Crisis, writers did not know what to do with her and she did not become a villain nor a hero, so her powers were forgotten and Andrea stayed on the show only as CatCO CEO.

Thanks to some promo scenes, the audience was under the impression Acrata would assist the Super Friends in the battle against Lex Luthor, unfortunately, her potential got wasted once again and all she did was save Lena in a scene no longer than five seconds.

7 Brainiac-5 Did Not Leave After His Dramatic Explanation For Why He Had To Leave

At some point during the two-hour finale, the audience learns that Querl Dox has to return to the future and merge with the Big Brain. This is cause for much suffering since it means his relationship with Nia Nal has come to an end. Even though Nia asks him for alternative solutions many times, Brainiac-5 assures her that if he doesn't go, terrible things will happen.

However, at the end of the episode, he decides against returning to the future, choosing Nia's love over logic, and especially, over the well being of the whole universe. It is not explained if Brainiac-5 found another solution to avoid a cosmic cataclysm or if he just does not care anymore.

6 Kara Was Left Single After Many Love Interest Options

One of the questions about Kara Zor-El's fate after the end of her story is one regarding her love life. While many fans were expecting to see her finally end up with her long-time best friend Lena Luthor, others wanted her ex-boyfriend Mon-El to return from the future to be with her.

Unfortunately, no one got what they wanted it. Lena Luthor and Kara Danvers remain just friends, and Mon-El returned just to let her know he would never be back. Granted, it is not a central plot for her story as a superhero, but Kara remains the only Arrowverse protagonist without a solid romance under her belt, despite the comics being different.

5 The Final Battle Was Lacking In Several Aspects

Supergirl Lex Luthor feature

It is true that the Arrowverse is not particularly known for its amazing special effects quality, but many times it has shown its true potential and it is not bad. However, the final battle of the last Supergirl episode is not an example of this. The episode not only lacked decent special effects, but it was also unnecessarily short, especially for a final battle.

It makes sense that many scenes had to be cut in order to make the episode fit into a two-hour block, but watching the episode, it is obvious that they should have prioritized other things at the moment of the editing.

4 The Interview With Cat Grant Should Have Been Longer

The final scene of Supergirl showed a smiley Kara Zor-El, sitting in front of Cat Grant and ready to introduce herself to the world as who she truly is. With this interview, Supergirl is finally merging her life as a human and her life as a superhero, which is the biggest milestone of her life.

While the scene makes for a very emotional ending, it is also a bittersweet experience for the fans that they do not get to see the new dynamics in her life. A longer scene for the final interview would have been a more emotional way of closing her story.

3 Superman Would Probably Have A Lot To Say About the Resolution Of The Show

Supergirl and Superman in the Arrowverse

A major plot-hole of the series' finale involves Superman's opinion on Supergirl revealing her identity to the world because it would also affect him and his family. After all, since Clark Kent and Kara Danvers are known to be cousins, it would not take long for someone to realize Clark and Superman are the same people, after learning Kara Danvers is Supergirl.

Regardless, Superman and Supergirl do not share the screen one last time in the show. But it would have been great to have an explanation on this matter, or at least a notion of what the relationship between the two Kryptonians is in the present. Luckily, there is still a chance it may happen in Superman And Lois.

2 Lex And Nyxly's Final Fate Felt Rushed

Not only did the final battle lack the emotion necessary for that kind of scene, but it also gave the fans a disappointing end for the villains of the story. After threatening the Super Friends with banishing them to the Phantom Zone, Lex and Nyxly are surprised with a plot twist: the phantoms inside the portal are attracted to their hubris and take them instead.

This is the end of their story, and it happens to be particularly anticlimatic. In the end, the Super Friends do not have to do anything; Lex and Nyxly seal their own fate, which is a waste of the power of this TV show's superheroes.

1 The CW Definitely Missed The Chance For An Epilogue

Supergirl

To be honest, Supergirl's finale had many flaws, but most of them can be forgiven when considering the love that the audience has for its characters. Regardless, there is one thing that the finale missed that most fans agree would have made a great addition to the episode: an epilogue to learn the future of the Super Friends.

Although the audience gets a couple of facts about their lives in posterior years, such as J'onn having a kid with M'gann, there is no doubt a glimpse of the future of these beloved heroes would have helped fans with the heartbreak of letting them go. Hopefully fans will get to see them in other Arrowverse shows.
