The CW has released five news photos teasing the introduction of Supergirl’s next major villain, Psi. Played by Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin, Reign), Psi can psychically bend people to her will. If the new photos are any indication, it seems the villain will be making liberal use of her powers.

Created by Paul Kupperberg and Carmine Infantino, Psi’s real name is Gayle Marsh, a psychokinetic who developed her powers early in life and was subsequently taught how to fight by the scientist David Pendergast. Pendergast took Gayle in after the death of her parents and began training her to fight the Decay. Gayle mistook Supergirl for said Decay and marked her as foe – only to later realize that the true Decay was Pendergast himself.

The character also briefly teamed with the Suicide Squad for a mission in Central American, and was later resurrected through a sinister ritual conducted by the Black Lantern Corps. Introduced in Daring New Adventures of Supergirl #1 in 1982, Psi has been killed off and resurrected numerous times in the comics. Her latest The New 52 incarnation saw her briefly aid Steve Trevor and Killer Frost.

Psi is slated to appear in the second episode of Supergirl’s third season. The episode, “Triggers,” will debut on the CW on Oct. 16, 2017.
