Lex Luthor lives to fight another day. In the Supergirl series finale, the self-dubbed Man of Tomorrow found himself dragged into the Phantom Zone after his latest scheme to send Kara there backfired. While that disposes of Lex for the moment, providing Supergirl with a happy ending, it leaves the door open for the character to return -- and actor Jon Cryer couldn't be happier about it.

Speaking to CBR, Cryer explained why he feels content with the way Lex's journey ended on the show. "You know, I feel okay with it, because it's a great comeuppance for a truly awful guy, but it also leaves the door open," he told CBR.

"I loved doing other stuff in the Arrowverse. I had a great time doing the 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' crossover. I really enjoy the shows! The Arrowverse shows have nailed the comics in a way that the movies have often had a hard time doing. So I like that he's not -- I didn't want to do another dying scene," he added with a laugh. "I died in the fourth season! We got that over with."

Though Lex Luthor is a prominent Superman character who was mentioned throughout the entire Supergirl series, the man himself didn't appear until midway through Season 4. Ever since he debuted in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", he was a constant thorn in the Super Friends' sides, acting as a primary antagonist for the rest of his time on the series.

Lex also had a prominent role in the Arrowverse crossover "Crisis on Infinite Earths," which destroyed and then reformed the multiverse. Unfortunately for the Super Friends, Lex had a direct hand in the world's rebirth, which gave him the upper hand he may not necessarily have had otherwise. This set him up as the Season 5 villain, which -- in turn -- gave him the space he needed to send Kara to the Phantom Zone in the Season 6 premiere.

Following his success at finally defeating Supergirl, Lex found himself greatly discontent; after all, he had no more challenges in his life. As such, he decided to travel to the far future, where he met and fell in love with the fifth dimensional imp Nyxly. He spent much of Season 6 attempting to woo her, and the eventual rift between them distracted him to the point that it ultimately led to his defeat.
