James Olsen's career as the Guardian could soon become a matter of public record on Supergirl.

According to the official synopsis for an upcoming episode called "The Fanatical," someone knows the identity of the Guardian. James will then have to decide whether to give in to blackmail, or allow his secret to go public. The episode, written by Paula Yoo and Eric Carrasco, will air on May 21 as the 19th episode of the season.

The show promises to take a moment to reflect on the current political climate of the real world. While contemplating his fate as the Guardian, James will also have to come to terms with what it will mean to be outed as a black vigilante in America.

Originally just Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen, and then Supergirl's love interest in Season 1, James decided to take the law into his own hands in Season 2. With the help of Winn Schott, he was able to start his own superhero career to help Supergirl protect National City. It's possible that his life as a masked vigilante could be coming to an end.

Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
