The extended promo for Supergirl's midseason premiere provides the first look at Jesse Rath as Brainiac 5, looking decidedly different from his DC Comics counterpart.

With the three lights on his forehead, this version of the character perhaps more closely resembles his depiction on the animated Legion of Super Heroes than in the classic comic books. But his blue skin and white hair are significant departures his traditional portrayals as a green-skinned, blond-haired Coluan. He's a bit creepy-looking, too.

In the Jan. 16, aptly titled "Legion of Superheroes," Mon-El (Chris Wood) recruits Legionnaire Brainiac 5 to help rescue Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) from a dreamlike state following the injuries she suffered at the hands of Reign. And as Reign (Odette Annable) continues her rampage through National City, the Legion -- Mon-El, Brainiac 5 and Saturn Girl (Amy Jackson) -- teams with the DEO to try to stop her.

Returning Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
