SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Legion of Super-Heroes," the midseason premiere of Supergirl.

Streaky the Supercat just helped Supergirl find her way home. In "Legion of Super-Heroes," the latest episode, Kara's beloved childhood pet popped up in her subconscious and inspired her to wake up from her coma.

As Kara struggled to find a way out of her subconscious, she discovered an old photograph of herself and a stray cat she named Streaky. "If this is my subconscious trying to tell myself something, I don't get it," she told Brianiac-5 as he attempted to help her find a way out of her mind prison.

Asked its name, Kara said, "Streaky. I found him on our street right after I came to Earth, actually. He was a stray too."

"You felt an emotional kinship?" Brianiac-5 asked.

"Yeah," she responded with a laugh. "We were friends. I used to go out every night and feed him. I didn't want to touch him. I was so strong I could have hurt him, so I practiced being gentle and then, one day, I pet him and he purred and everything was okay. I felt like an alien on Earth for so long and he helped me feel like a human."

As Brianiac-5 prepared to leave her subconscious so that he could focus on the Legion's fight against Reign, he told her, "For what it's worth, it looked like Supergirl had a pretty great life."

"Those aren't Supergirl's things. They're... Kara's," she explained in a moment of epiphany. Streaky, combined with a plea with Alex, made Kara realize that she couldn't lock the human side of herself away; in order to return to consciousness, she needed to be her full self, human feelings and all.

Of course, longtime Supergirl fans will recognize the name Streaky from the comics. Streaky the Supercat was introduced in 1960's Action Comics #261 by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and Jim Mooney. After he was exposed to X-Kryptonite, Streaky became a Supercat with powers like flight, super strength and super speed. He was also once a member of the Legion of Super-Pets.

In The CW's Supergirl, it appears that Streaky remained a normal cat. Nevertheless, his powers of adorableness and nostalgia managed to help Kara escape her coma.

Airing Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.
