Supergirl Season 5 Is One to Watch For #SuperCorp Shippers

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist says the upcoming fifth season of the CW superhero series will be crucial for fans who ship the Girl of Steel and Lena Luthor, aka #SuperCorp.

When asked by Entertainment Tonight if Kara Danvers and Lena could ever be more than friends, Benoist replied, "It's gonna be a rough season." Executive Producer Jessica Queller then went on to say that Season 5 revolves almost entirely around their relationship, noting that if fans "care about the relationship between Supergirl and Lena, they'll get a lot of it this year."

Of course, none of this should come as a surprise for diehard fans of the series. Earlier this month, Queller said, "The relationship between Kara and Lena is the emotional center of the season." Regarding Lena's discovery of Supergirl's secret identity in the Season 4 finale, she stated, "Kara’s betrayal puts that friendship front and center."

Returning Sunday, Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers.
